1937 - 41 Ford, they transitioned to hydraulic brakes in 1939 which this axle has - older models could also be converted.

The style of axle is called a "torque tube".
They were common on vehicles up to the early 1960's. They were quite robust.

Common to Fords, this model is also called a "banjo" style axle due to the look of the center section with the axle tube bolted on with the big cones.

Torque tube axles also were made with a conventional looking center section.

Value... Probably not much really. :(

It looks pretty clean, I would hate to scrap it.
    (No surprise there  )

Those axle tube with the cones make excellent stands to mount a grinder on with the cone being the part on the floor.

I have also seen them made into jackstands.

Try to find it a good home. ;)

Amazing, thank you for the info!

Ill have to look into "torque tube" axles. Must have been a u-joint at the start of the tube to allow for some limited suspension flex

Not sure where Id even post something like this up for sale. Being up here in Maine there isnt much of a market. Quick searching shows me a bunch of center castings and a few axle shafts for sale, but no full assemblies. Not that Im looking to make a killing on it. But at the end of the day Id like it to be worth my while moving such a large heavy item from the property

Either way we will definitely try to find it a good home. Worst case I love the idea of a grinder pedestal

Found pieces of this old car in about 3 different spots across an acre or so. There was also a bench seat about half a mile away.

We're finally having the junk cleared from the woods near our new house. These pics are from the front scrap area where the original farmers parked old cars and farm equipment next to their barn. The barn has been gone since the 60's, and it's now overgrown. We're removing the junk from there, correcting a drainage issue, and leveling the area for a greenhouse and garden plot for my wife. This is the area that had the old Pontiac LeMans on it, and there was also a Model-A, and a lot of old flathead engines. Unfortunately, Nothing was salvageable except for scrap, so it's all in a giant pile.

There's still a pre-war Dodge of some kind that has pancaked into the ground in the rear of the property that needs to come out. We're glad to get it cleaned up.
