    Eh, lots of people don't understand how mechanical or electrical things work. While this is kinda amazing intially, I can see how somebody who has no idea how refrigeration works might be puzzled.

    The only reason I thought this could be real was people saying electric cars can do that shit ..

    Made me think OP was super young and had minimal exposure to real automobiles

    Hybrids do this to a limited extent - not with the ignition off, but because most hybrids use electrical compressors, if the car is just sitting idle (not off), the a/c would continue to operate, and the engine would only kick on/off as needed to keep the HV battery charged. Both our old Prius and current Rav4 hybrids would run the engine ABOUT 2-3 minutes for every 7 to 10ish minutes of idle with the a/c on (and radio). Initially longer because the HV battery would have a higher charge after driving.

    Makes me curious now. I'm going to have to time it next time - if I remember...
