    Hello,

I need some advice on upgrading my stock jbl sound system in my 2005 Tacoma. The reason I am upgrading is because my speaker is blown and it just sounds awful. I’m looking into the RF p3ds2, but heard bad things about it with the factory amp. Would I just be able to replace the amp and sub and that’s it or do I need a separate mono for the sub itself. Looking to stay under $550. Just need some help with choosing what is best and easiest. I have experience with wiring so no issue there. I also upgraded to a joying head unit a while back.

I went with 2 JL W0 10s in a sealed box behind the back seats (I have an 08 double cab Taco) and removed the plastic storage trim behind the back seats to fit a box that is available on Amazon that is custom made for the truck. For the cabin, I went with Polk MM6502 6.5" in the rear doors, and Polk MM692 6x9" in the front, and I replaced the small 1.5 inch speakers in the front doors with the tweeters that came with the bundle (including the passive crossovers for the tweets in the doors). I replaced the factory amp with a Soundstream ST4.1200D 600 Watt RMS Compact amp. The subs are being driven by a JL AUDIO RD500/1 MONOBLOCK 500W RMS amp. I have pics and wiring schematics for the wires that run from the factory amp into the doors. I ran RCA cables to all the amps from my headunit. I'm very pleased with how it sounds. My spend was well over $550 for the whole system, but you can go with cheaper subs and a cheaper amp.

So if I wanted to install a mono amp along with an upgraded sub, how would I go about doing that? After reading all across tacomawrld that seems like the best path to take. Just confused on how I would go about doing that. I also have an upgraded joying headunit.

And if just installing an upgraded sub is fine let me know because that would be preferred, just heard not so good things about the quality of an upgraded sub with the stock amp. Thanks!
