So attempting my first oil change on the 22 trdor. I’m
Certainly learning a lot. Not so much that I pine for my 94 Wangler or anything but……

First I’m Going to have to make the 50 mile round trip to town in the backup vehicle to get ATF and pump, as I just rushed in and drained a couple Qts of ATF till I realized my mistake.

I have the proper oil filter wrench. Removed the access hatch from skid plate. But this is what I see in what I assume is the actual oil pan drain plug? IMG_0927.jpg
Photo taken thru the round hole in the back of the skid plate. Is it an aftermarket oil pan drain plug or is this something else?

That’s a quick drain Fumoto valve. There’s a lever on the side you just flip and it will drain the oil out, no wrench needed. I’d hit that one with a little WD-40 though, looks like it’s got a few changes on its odometer.

Consider it an upgrade from the last guy to make your life easier.

trust me you aren’t the first to drain the tranny expecting motor oil to come out. Plenty of threads on here of that.

That’s a Fumoto valve. Push in and down on that wing-handle. Good that you caught your mistake on time, many have added the extra oil and driven off. On ATF, make sure you get WS ATF. Unless you do a flush, I would only put in Toyota or Idemitsu WS ATF.

I’ve only had the truck since Jan. 38K miles on the vehicle. Had one oil change at a shop. Thought I would save some money and do it myself. ROFL

Nothing wrong with those, you have the one that can accept a piece of hose which is ideal. Get yourself a piece of clear rubber or heater hose, I think it’s 3/8, and slide it on before you open the valve. You can drain it right into a jug without making a mess. Keep the hose aside for the next after shooting it with some brake clean. That thing takes 10 min of cleanup work out of the job.

Just make sure the truck is fully heated…the opening in the valve is a lot smaller than the hole for the original drain plug. If the truck isn’t fully hot, it takes a while to drain it.

Bright side: now you know for next time and thankfully this knowledge didn't cost more than a bit of your time and cost for the ATF

Dude come on, that's totally uncalled for. The guy is attempting to learn and admitted his mistake here publicly. We all start somewhere and learn from our mistakes.

If you don’t know the difference between a buffer tube and receiver extension don’t breed yourself.

actually perhaps breeding yourself is what you should do….

I’m not interested in curating a “perfect life online”.

I’m a human being, make many mistakes every single day. I’m from an age where I didn’t grow up with a computer in the home, or have zero tolerance for violence in school.

And I’ve now successfully used the internet to figure out the issues and successfully change my oil and top off the trans fluid.

id look at it this way…A drain/fill on 30k or so intervals is not a bad idea and many do that anyway, myself included

The difference being, I don't call people out for their mistakes except in cases like this. I did edit prior to your reply, but I'm good with my previous wording.
