I added struts to my hood and they are not lifting the hood. I have to push it up.
I saw somewhere that the scooped hood is heavier than the flat hood.

Anyone have struts on their scooped hood? Does it require different struts?

I've got a scooped hood. There was only one option when I purchased mine. I see more options now but that's for carbon fiber or aftermarket ones.

I got something that may work. I need to dig it up. Redline is weak for nonscoop hoods too.

I had a non scooped hood first. Used the same struts when I changed. Just had to get a new set of mounts, ha. No issue on either hood.

I did some research and came up with these.

    2 in longer
    +9 lb pressure

Edit: Here is the comparison to Redline:

Not about opening. Its about holding it open sufficiently and providing better access.

I think it's a little unrealistic to expect the struts to open the hood without assist. Have you owned another vehicle that did that ? There's some physics at work here.... IF the struts had the power to lift the hood, you might have a hard time closing it...

I have a skewp. Just bought any old struts that didn't require drilling. They hold the hood up fine.

    All the things!
I have Redlines on my scooped hood. They don't open by themselves (I wouldn't want them to), but they take minimal effort to raise up, and hold the hood in place indefinitely.

Make sure your strut attachments are per the manufacturer's specifications. Anchoring the struts in the wrong spot changes the geometry and required force.

The physics at work are that all struts need to rotate slightly over center in the closed position to stay closed an not constantly exert force against the hood, in this case, into the extended, or up, position. Back doors and windoors on caps do the same, or any door and compartment that application where the panel needs to be maintained in an up position when open.

My redlines need a slight nudge of encouragement after the latch is released.
    Not much but some.
As has been said you don't want the hood to open fully all by itself as soon as you release the latch.
You get what you pay for.
For another 20 bucks you coulda got redlines.

This is from the Redline Tuning.

Redline Tuning Hood QuickLIFT Systems are designed to clean up your engine bay by eliminating your hood prop rod. One-handed operation, simply start to lift the hood and it will rise unassisted in a smooth and controlled motion. Redline Tuning is the worldwide leader in aftermarket Hood QuickLIFT systems since 2002 with hundreds of vehicle-specific applications.

@canuck guy - Where can I get Redlines for $64?

Same with my Redlines. One finger to send the hood up but closing it, that takes a little more muscle.

I have the Spiker brand on my scooped hood and one I move the latch release I can slightly lift the hood and it goes up. I used Redline on other vehicles over the years but Spikers are I think a better quality and are stronger in lifting the hood.
