I have a 2003 5 speed 4wd Tacoma that’s making a knocking noise that is definitely coming from trans. I can try to attach a video to the thread if needed.

I have done my best to read through forums to possibly find an answer but the closest thing I have found is a humming noise which isn’t happening in my situation.

the knocking happens when truck is in neutral, but stops when clutch is depressed. No problem shifting into any gear except reverse and it grinds like no other for a few seconds then it almost catches and falls into gear. I haven’t been able to notice the noise while driving bc the truck is straight pipped and loud.

any help would be much appreciated

I mean dang, if its making knocking noises and grinding into gear....it's probably toast and needs a rebuild.
