https://youtube.com/shorts/pJdRzTHqdLw?si=o5ALm1_Y5zuNsLOUMy Tacoma just recently started to throw smoke on cold start ups and only cold start ups. And it’s like whiteish or grayish. It takes about 5 seconds after start up to start throwing smoke for like 10 seconds then it disappears and no more smoke comes out. And it’s not cold here. It’s pretty hot and a little humid I guess but it’s never done this. Just recently started to. Any thoughts on why? Also the oil looks fine. Coolant is normal level. And it hasn’t over heated. I have a video but TW won’t let me post it for some reason.

Is this case of the truck never doing this or a case of you never noticing it does this?

It runs in direct injection mode then switches to port after 25 or so seconds. So normal

A little white “smoke” coming out of the tailpipe of an internal combustion engine on startup is completely normal. On the other hand, if you look out your back window while driving down the freeway and it looks like mount st Helen’s erupted out your tail pipe, and everyone behind you is slowing down, pulling off, or trying to pass you, go asap to your nearest fire station.

I took this pic out my window 2 weeks ago.

Your video @0:14-0:16 clearly shows the injection mode switch.
Maybe some environmental conditions make it more visible.
Obd2 app helps to understand the engine workings and also monitor parameters to rule out any potential issues

Mine, and for that matter my last 2019 also, does that all the time, sometimes even for a min or two. So does my Lexus out of both tail pipes. Soon as the exhaust is warmed up it’s gone.

I also live in Florida so there’s that…not much more room for anymore humidity down here. Doesn’t necessarily have to be cold for it to do that. I think you’re good and it’s just environmental.

Oh okay, yeah I see it. Yea I usually noticed that. The engine is loud on start up and goes slightly more quiet after a few seconds. But maybe you’re right and I’m over thinking it but I just think it’s weird because I’ve never seen it before.

Wow really. And yea same. Soon as it’s warmed up it’s gone and no more smoke. Maybe it is normal.
