    Hey all,

I’ve got a 2010 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab (short bed), and I’m in the market for a solid set of rock sliders. I’m not rock crawling, but I do hit forest roads, rough trails, and occasionally camp in pretty remote spots. Mostly looking for sliders for body protection, with the option to use them as a step (if it doesn’t kill ground clearance too much).

    A few questions:

    • Bolt-on vs. weld-on – what’s your experience? Any flexing or regrets with bolt-on?

    • Any favorite brands you’d recommend (or stay away from)?

    • Anyone running step-style sliders on a Sport? Worth it?

    • How was install, and what’s the lead time been like lately?
Photos are always welcome! Appreciate any insight you all have—thanks!

I have weld-ons because they were significantly cheaper than bolt ons, and weighed much less, but as I’ve gotten further into it, neither has mattered. They are basically pieces of tubing to protect your truck, as long as they are made from DOM there aren’t many features that can differentiate one make from another. Most made by reputable shops are going to be pretty similar performance wise, so just pick the ones with the look you like best.

I have bolt on, but I agree with the above statement that it doesn't matter. My truck was still under warranty when I bought them, so bolt on made sense. In the long run, a little extra steel on these frames is a good thing, and you can always weld on a bolt on set of sliders if the frame is compromised.

My sliders are low angle (not flat), and they work great as a step. I've had them for many years, and I think I may have been happier with flat. Mine are from Pelfreybilt, who is no long in business, but there are many solid manufacturers. Pick one closer to home to save on shipping.

Thank you both for two different but similar view points.
