I use mine several times a week. It’s deeply ingrained into me since I was a kid to never let it drop. It’s simply second nature to me.

My friend Dave, he’s been to a couple of our outings. His daughter killed the poor Jeep. No word on how many plastic ducks were recovered.

The tailgate damper does sound a nice convenience. But, my hand works, too. :notsure:

I could see it being convenient in those odd scenarios when I'm already in the bed and then decide to open the tailgate.

It's extremely convenient when you have your hands full with firewood or beer or something and have one free finger to pull the latch and just let it slowly fall.

Ahhh a tale as old as time. People resistant to conveniences that make life easier. The old back in my day uphill both directions thing. Now it's talking about not needing your tailgate to open nicely on its own. Back in the day it was my horse is just fine I don't need no damn automobile. And then later it was cruise control, I don't need that, my feet work just fine.

I'm not one to fight against convenience. I love power windows and locks, cruise, etc. I'm also annoyed that they got rid of the hood struts on the new 4Runner.

I have had some issues with power tailgate latches, though.

Nowadays, anytime people don't cling to the hottest new technology, some folks assume it means that they're afraid of change or something. :notsure:

Hard to tell through just letters on a screen if you are serious or not but I will pretend you are. The older people get the more resistant they are to technology of any kind. I'm sure once I get older I will do the same thing. Not only as people get older but also it's considered a manly thing to not need things that make life easier for some reason. Every time technology comes out that makes something that wasn't all that hard to begin with a bit easier, there are always people who say they don't see the need for it and that the way they have always done it has worked just fine. A great example is backup cameras. They are a wonderful invention but when they first started coming out lots of people who have been driving for 20 plus years already said that they didn't see the need for the extra cost and complication when mirrors have done the job for a long time. While they are correct that mirrors did indeed do the job, backup cameras are incredible and there's no logical reason to ever be against them. Same for the current conversation, yes, a tailgate works just fine without dampers and always has. No you do not need them. But they are a very nice thing to have. As stated, if you are sleeping in the truck bed and opening it it's nice to just pull the handle and let it go and it's also quite nice when you have your hands full and can only free up a pinky to pull the handle and then step back. They don't add extreme complexity, don't make the tailgate unreliable, nor do they add extreme cost so there is no logical reason to be against them.

Aside from yelling at clouds, check this shit out. This is why short course off-road racing is incredible. Make sure those of you that watch the video have your volume on.

Ah the convenience of an ambulance... when family members dont want to drive their family to the er and sit there with them... call the ambulance.. and just hope another gets to the serious incident in time. Dispatch does flip flop us based on call acuity sometimes..

If only people would just rub some dirt in it like old times... well I'd be close to being out if a job :O
But if a farmer calls... weeeeeeewooooooo because they usually downplay their injuries..

dispatch "male who cut his leg with weed whacker"
Get on scene follows trail of blood to a door.. lady answers.. hey did you call 911 we are looking for a guy who got himself eith a weed whacker...
-no but my husband got his leg chewed up by a rototiller when his pants got stuck... find bandaids sprinkled on his leg like sprinkles.. all bled through torn and stained pant leg.. oh and hes on thinners but i can drive him right? ...
    Well we dont reccomend it...
-its fine we werent even going to go to the hospital anyways...

Me -________- we stayed until they left the driveway

I’ll have you know, my grandmother rode the stage coach to high school. I’t amazing the changes in the world that she witnessed in her 102 years on this planet.

I hope you’re not trying to imply that I’m one of those old people resisting change. I’ve been on the bleeding edge of modern tech both at work and home for the last 40+ years and I’ll never step away from that. I just find some things are silly overkill. It doesn’t need to be extreme expense and complexity to make it unnecessary, to me, if I’m adding expense and complexity, it damn well better be well worth it. As for sleeping in the bed of a truck? Only uncivilized rednecks and homeless do that! Damn…

    :duh:

True, but as an 8 year old, I watched the first moon landing. My grandmother grew up without running water, electricity or cars and witnessed everything in between that and the lunar landings. The period she lived through probably had the most extreme and extraordinary change in all of human history.

I was 7, glued to a b&w tv watching, the funny thing is the grands would never talk about the hard times but my pops & mom had stories of them.
