    Hello folks,

Recently, while having the harmonic balancer replaced at a local shop, they discovered that the previous installation of my engine had some issues. They also mentioned that my steering pump pulley might need attention.

As this truck is a keeper for me, I prefer to use OEM parts whenever possible. I'm in the process of ordering a new steering pump assembly, but I'm uncertain whether I should replace just the pulley or the entire pump. I have come across two part numbers that may be relevant: 44310-04110 and 44320-04020.

I would appreciate hearing about others' experiences with steering pumps and pulleys. Is it advisable to stick with OEM parts for these components, similar to how one would approach lower ball joints, or is aftermarket acceptable? I am currently leaning towards OEM but would value any thoughts or ideas you all might have.

    Truck specs:

    Tacoma Prerunner 2001
    3RZ, 2.7

Thank you in advance for your input!

The pulley attaches to a shaft that drives the pump.
If the pulley has play int it, replace the pump.

The only way the pulley goes bad is from wear (years of dirt, grime,....wears at the belt surface)

We kind of need to "what attention" they are referring to?
    Surface wear to the pulley?
    Or play in the pulley?

    Thanks for your reply.

The shop didn't really specify but visually, the pulley has a wobble when spinning. In this case, do you think I should focus more on the steering pump than ordering the pump with the pulley attached?

If it were me I would get the pump with the pulley. You are taking the chance that it is the pulley that is warped/bent as opposed to the PS pump shaft bent and causing the wobble, then there is the possibility that the shop damages the pump putting the pulley on.

The pump shaft doesn't get bent. The bearings wear over time.

As stated above, it's usually the bearings in the pump.
Sure, on some occasions the pulley can get worn or damaged, but 90% it's the pump.

I'd go with a pump. Good luck finding a decent pump with a pulley.
Most I've seen that include the pulley are China junk.

My old pump worked fine but my reservoir sprung a leak so I got a pump and reservoir from eBay by matching up one with the OEM style reservoir with the intentions of just using the reservoir. After getting it, I decided to try the whole assembly and have been pleased with it so far and no issues. Just make sure to flush your PS system well before installing the new one

The only thing I see different is one is listed for 2WD, and the other 4WD.

    4110 2WD - https://www.toyotaoflaredo.com/parts/order-parts/?path=/oem-parts/toyota-power-steering-pump-4431004110

    4120 4WD - https://wholesaledirect.moderntoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-power-steering-pump-4431004120#:~:text=Pump Assembly Vane&text=Tacoma.,L, from 1/96.
