Timing cover back on. What a PITA. Broke one bolt for the water pump and stripped two more for the valve covers…..this is why I don’t really use a torque wrench. Oh well used a thread chaser and a new bolt and they tightened up fine

Now to panic about the lower oil pickup o ring lmao

Almost ready. New tundra master is in. At some point to long of a bolt went into the valve cover and broke the tip off. I helicoiled it and somehow the drill didn’t go completely straight. Used steel stick on it and it seems solid. Torqued to spec no problem. Hopefully it STAYS put lol

Well the head gasket DIY if officially done. Truck is running GREAT. Coolant is suctioning properly from the res to the radiator unlike before.

pulled the lower oil pan to clean it out. Pickup tube was pretty filthy. Removed the broken metal from the valve cover out of the pan as well. Put in a new valve cover from eBayIMG_9492.jpg

Awesome news! I had my fingers crossed that everything would work out for you. My truck is getting up there in milage as well and when I read this happened, I started sweating it. I’m glad you were able to handle this. Over all…how much did you have to spend?

Thank you!! In parts and machine work probably around 1500. I did replace the cam phasers which was expensive and likely not needed lol. All timing components were probably ~400 from partsouq and the phasers were about ~300. Oem gasket kit was 260. The machine shop cost around 260. I opted to replace every single gasket. Clean fuel injectors, lap the valves. Was definitely worth it to DIY. Took like two months due to having no free time but I have a daily driver so no big deal.

Totally awesome feeling! Took a long time but totally worth it and no shop or person would have taken as much care as I did.
