I like this guy’s build, but I’ll most likely keep my bed and set it up like @FlapJack935 ’s SUA setup. If I were to go all out with a complete bed cage, I might as well link it at that point. For now, this build phase is just about getting myself and my family out to the desert to have some fun.
I keep getting set back from my original plan of linking the truck because, every time I save up some cash, something comes up—whether it’s for the house or life in general.
So, as of now, I’m going with the 64” kit you suggested, a Tundra axle with 5.29 gears (which I already have), and keeping the bed and current bed sides. I’ll go from there.

I'm thinking about whether or not to buy one-piece headlights and I'm wondering if the only bolts holding in your lights are the two on the right or if there is another point they're mounted to the cage?

Mounted from at least 3 points. I'm pretty sure the inner bottom corner is retained by the grill.

Sanded down the heavy spots and I’m going to complete it in the garage like I did with the old red truck. No wet sanding as it is a play truck just needs to look good from 10’

I’m trying to post more on here like I used to, but you can follow along on my IG page @dirt_yota if you want to watch me fumble my way through things!

Also got the stupid rear drum brakes handled last night with buddy that’s a mechanic. Drums brakes are dumb, disc conversions are too much money so drums will stay!

next up is getting the blown out bump out of the can that it has become one with, fun!

    :bananadance:

    Sounds like corrosion from Pismo.

Get some penetrating oil in there then tap it out with a block of wood and a hammer.

Not bad for rattle can and gloss black, mistakes were made more than once but after some elbow grease she’s all one color! I just rattle canned it and was against putting in the effort to wet sand. Since I had no patience and had orange peel twice and put a bunch of time in to fix said orange peel I gave in and wet sanded the clear coat which was hazy and splotchy. Gotta say wet sanding is the trick! Wish I would have done the paint prior to clear coating. I followed with a heavy polish then a fine polish and wax. For a driveway/garage paint job it’s fine, not perfect but it’s not two colors!!!

Now you just need the wheels some other color than black… maybe bronze? Or gunmetal gray

    How dare you sir!!!!

lol I’m not about to buy 6 new wheels especially with the cost of them now a days!!! If a wheel company wants to hook it up or something I would totally go for a dark gray or even polished wheel.
