Will the 4th gen trd OF rear shocks fit the 3rd gen?

Seems they are a "better" shock and could be a curious test

I wondered the same thing but haven't been able to find any specs.

Also curious if any of the GX550 suspension components could be interchanged. They lengthened the front lower control arms and CVs to increase suspension travel. Would be interesting if those components could be adapted to fit a Tacoma.

Them fitting is kinda irrelevant (even though im pretty sure the mounting bolts are different sizes and the total shock length is different). Even if you could get them to fit, it's a completely different suspension setup. There's a very good chance they will make the ride worse on a 3rd gen. The valving won't match the leaf spring setup of the 2nd/3rd gens.

I think it could be worth trying if the shock actually physically fits... The suspension's motion ratio should be very close to the same (1:1) since both are a solid axle, and I suspect the truck's weight isn't too far different either.

I do suspect the shock mounting (and/or it's length) would be different though.
OEMs seem to have this thing with not using an existing item (such as shock mount configuration) for a redesigned vehicle even in cases where that existing item would've been perfectly fine to use (I guess to keep aftermarket companies on their toes? Kindof sucks really... The changed lug/hub pattern & offset for 4th-gen wheels is a good example of this).
