God, finding the right tires is annoying. No more "budget" AT tires anymore.

Ever since I can remember the best budget tire has been Falken Wildpeaks. Well now they are still considered the best budget tire when they are not in the budget price category, they are great riding and looking tires but I can't justify that price tag right now. The closest discount tire to me is 4 hours away so the rocky mountain ATs aren't an option for me or I would.

My situation. got a 23 4x4, time for stock tires to come off, i live 10 miles down a dirt road in the forest,i dont wheel a ton but my truck does get used like a truck to get to remote fishing areas in the mountains. I am going up to 265-75-r16 from stock. I know, don't cheap out on tires but honestly I dont need to drop $1400 on wildpeaks right now at this time in my life. I got some sumitomo encounters on sale for $135 each that I ordered then was told the listing was wrong after and they are E rated instead of C(Which I thought they were) or SL so I canceled those now I am back to square one as E is too heavy.

Im not on a super tight budget but I have to buy 5 tires, so to replace my spare as well. I am hoping to be under $1k for everything installed. Looked at all the cheap chinesium tires and it seems like just a waste of money so im not going to buy a thunderer or venom predator(lol the weird names), then I looked at some of the multi mile like the trailguide as a nice simple cheap AT tire but I would rather spend more than $105 per tire and have something more aggressive looking. Next step up in tires budget wise and finding an aggressive looking and decent riding 265/75/r16 in my budget has been nearly impossible. Anyone have a point in the right direction? I have been googling and reading my butt off but out of stock, old prices not reflecting the new prices, tires not made anymore and whatever other issues has been holding me back. So much information and hard to filter through the noise. Thanks in advance.

 

You got any of the "Mexican" tire places near you? Might as well start asking around if any of them have take offs that would work for you.

Im going to be replacing my tires soon as well, but I've just come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to pay a lot. Is what it is. Good luck. Let us know what you get.

 

Pricing is bad and only going to get worse. The lower budget price point has just shifted up unfortunately. Your best off to just bite the bullet and get what your after as opposed to settling on a sub par option that could be questionable.

 

FWIW I really like my Thunderer Ranger AT/R on my Land Cruiser, they're quiet and very grippy. Been great tires in the winter too.

 

When I'm buying tires, I try to keep in mind that there are only a handful of 'popular' tires that are stocked around my tire shops. I tend to go with those, bc I don't really wanna run mismatched tire brands if I need a replacement. That being said, my recent tire purchase, I landed on cooper at3's LT. Considerably cheaper for a full set vs K02/3 or wildpeaks.

 

I've run Coopers for ten+ years. It's been interesting (frustrating, actually) to see the prices nearly double since Goodyear purchased the brand—$608 installed in 2015 to $1,020 installed in 2024.

 

You can get falken Rubitrek for under 200 each in that size

 

I've run tires from eBay (often from Asian countries) on my truck, and passenger cars with success. See what pops up on there.

 

Skip replacing the spare and get 4 nice tires for $1k. Your truck is 2023; leave the spare alone for another 15 years...

If you want capable tires you are going to pay for them. It's the same as if you bought a new LC 250 to lift it and put 35s on it, budget friendly shouldn't be in your vocabulary.
