Was washing the roof of my truck yesterday and notice that when I pressed on the roof the Shark fin was not sealed to the roof just curious if this is normal or have you all sealed it with some rtv or silicone?

Also, one of the black plastic drip rails (I think that what it's called) is not seated in the channel properly can they be pried off and re seated?

    TIA

There is no obvious seal to the shark fin, it is a rubber grommet seals with pressure of the fasteners. Do you have water on the roof liner? If so then you have a problem, otherwise no problem.

As for the two strips on the roof people remove them to attach roof racks. They have various troubles reattaching them. I have no experience with them. They are certainly not a drip rail.

No obvious indication that water is infiltrating the fin, I was just shocked to see the gap when I was washing the area.

I didn't realize that was where the roof racks would attach. Thanks

I would not try to seal it, else it could stay wet underneath it if you don’t seal it properly.

Understood, any idea how to check that the connection is tight? does it require the headliner to come out?

    This and that
You’ve gotta pull down the headliner a touch, I think I took the c pillars off to help with the headliner flex.

Thanks guys it's a new / used truck for me had it about a week sold my 2010 TRD OR and pick this one up. Doesn't appear to have any damage or water intrusion so I am going to just keep an eye on it for now.

Why don't you do a good job of taking some pictures and post them. Perhaps what you are describing none of us have seen before. I would be willing to get up on my roof and push in the same manner to check.

    Otherwise, do leave it alone.

I most certainly understand when something is new to us, we like to have answers to our concerns.

Can't speak on the sharkfin but I had issues with the drip rail trim popping up, its pretty easy to get a finger under the short little pieces at the rear and pop them up, which then leaves the long part free to peel up. I resorted to one giant zigzag bead of window urethane along the whole thing, but they haven't moved yet since then. 3m weatherstrip adhesive and double sided foam tape didn't work for me, the left one popped out on the highway once and slapped the roof so hard and scared the shit out of me.

Maybe consider just re-sticking the end/edge of the strip where it is loose with a dab of silicone instead of pulling off the entire strip and avoid creating any (new) leaks. I did this on the leading edge of the passenger side strip that was starting to work a bit loose, and it has held. Clean the area first with an alcohol pad or equivalent. I didn't want to risk creating new leaks by pulling the entire strip and disturbing the existing sealants. The windshield isn't OEM and I suspect the strip was disturbed when it was replaced.

The rubber roof strips get pulled up during windshield replacement. I had one poking up recently, try to seat it, it resisted. Pulled up the end and found some tree debris in there. Cleaned it out well, reseated it, put a fat piece of painters tape on it and parked it in the sun to soften it and relax it. No issue since.

    Thanks.

I have good luck with 3M Weatherstrip adhesive for things like this to stick things down for good. Even a dab works on things like this. You let it set/dry a bit and then press the item in place and hold it with tape. The black works really great and the yellow is even stronger.

The driver's-side strip on my truck has a hairline crack in it running a couple of inches up from the edge at the windshield towards the back. Appears to just be from natural weathering and never gets worse. I just go careful near it when scraping the windshield in the winter and avoid it otherwise.
