This is going to be a pretty stupid question, but here goes. My son just bought a 2021 Tacoma Off road. He had a 4runner before this, and the headlights were horrible. So I was going to pay to upgrade his headlights to the stock LED assuming he had the halogen. I was looking at what it took to do this, and was set to buy the headlights and wiring harness. But I went out with him at night, and his headlamps were really good. I tried to look on the toyota website to find his buildlist from the factory, but I could not find it. Looking at the back of the headlight assembly, there is a single connector going into the assembly. That tells me, I think, that it is the factory LED. The wiring going into the headlight assembly is factory. Did some offroad models have the factory LED, as an option maybe? I am not 100% sure it is LED, but the color does not look like a standard halogen beam. What are the differences in the halogen and LED assembly's just looking at them? I am sure going to save my money for sure, whatever he has, they are not worth putting money into it to upgrade. His birthday is coming up, and I would like to get him something nice, now I can get him something he wants, as opposed to what I want him to have for safety. Thanks all, Phil

Your headlights question I cannot answer but the Toyota website is doable. You have to register as the owner with the VIN and then look for the info. It has been so long ago that I can’t give you step by step instructions.

My 2021 OR has multiple, 3-4, connectors on the back of each assembly. Just replaced my low beams a few weeks a go. A Single filament bulb.

Thanks for the quick reply, he did register on the site, and it was a very basic list. I was hoping to find something similar to the list they put on the window at the dealership. I could not find anything that specific.

I looked on ebay for replacement halogen and LED headlight assembly, and he definitely has the LED. Kinda happy about that, there are a lot of deer around here, and I like him to have the best chance possible at seeing them. thanks again,

If it’s one connector, then it has the factory LEDs. 2020-2023 TRD Sport and Offroad had them as an option. 2020-2023 TRD Pro had a blacked out version by default.

But, even without the LEDs, I find the halogens quite good on this truck. I had the LEDs for several years and sold them when I thought I was getting rid of it. Now I’m leaning towards keeping it and I’m back on halogen, but not really looking to go back.

I just grabbed my window sticker and it does not say what type of lights I have. So that would not be helpful. Only mention of lights is “Automatic” high beams.

Factory LED headlights come as a part of the Advanced Techology package, IIRC, at least on my 22 Sport. Also adds blind spot monitoring and cross path detection.

They do seem to sometimes come with the advanced tech package, but not always. I had a loaner with BSM that had halogen. I also have a non BSM that came stock with halogen. I have a buddy that has no tech extras on a 2020 and his had the lights.

It was a $485 package for the LEDs and seems to be somewhat random, with Toyota choosing them implement them as they wanted to. Aside from the TRD Pros of course which all had them from 2020+.

Post a picture of the truck’s headlights. The projectors and the LEDs look very different.

The LED headlights also have sequential turn signals.

This is an OEM LED headlight. If they look like this they are LED.

When I was looking for my Taco (end of 2021), I think there was a Technology package, with BSM, Cross path and halogen headlights, and Advanced Technology package, that had LEDs and 360 degree cameras. And LEDs were available as a stand alone option.

I could be wrong, but every time there was Advanced Tech package, LEDs were included as well.

On the sticker AT and LED are listed separately.

Thanks for all the replies, pretty active forum. Well it is official, he has the LED headlights. Acording to the Toyota website, the only option purchased other than the standard equipment on the off road, was the TP Technology Package. Which I do not think included the LED headlights. So who knows, like BLtheP says, looks like they can be sometimes random. My guess is this was just sent to a dealership and it happen to have the LED's. One thing I know my son thought was cool was the blinkers integrated into the healights. That may have been one of the things that set this one apart from others he looked at, and why he chose it. Thanks all, appreciate all the responses and the welcome to the forum. Phil

He is really lucky. It was a $485 option, but it costs $1500-ish to do it yourself afterwards. He may also have LED fog lights. Mine look like they have a magnifying lens in the middle.

It seems like it's a stand alone option. (LG)

I have the (FE) Premium Sport Package and the (TP) Technology Package but no (LG) LED headlights. I added them recently.
