This is what holds it in these thin tabs, the vent pushes through from the outside and tabs spring up and rest against the back wall on the top and bottom to hold it. Seriously cant believe this is the design, sure it is quick from a manufacturing standpoint but no way it will hold.

Picking my truck up tonight from the dealer.

Stay FAR FAR Away from Courtesy Toyota of Brandon

Not only have they not done anything so far to fix the issue, I had to go see them in person today because nobody has called me back despite leaving several messages and being told I was getting a call yesterday.

Once I got to talk to someone they told me the $1200 fee is not to fix anything, its just to remove the seats, pull the carpet up and assess the damage. That is what I was affraid of and why I didnt sign off on it yet.

The cost for repair will be determined after, an unknown amount.
But if $1200 is just the inspection, you can bet the repair is going to be stupid expensive, probably more than the truck is even worth over a leak from a vent that is honestly designed in a defective way and should be recalled like the brake light was.

Pulling seats, carpet and plastic to get to the rear of the truck... even at $200 an hour labor that cant take more than a couple of hours to "assess the damage" and then be locked into a bill for more.

So I tried to negotiate and offered $400 for this inspection and they basically laughed at me.

They were telling me its going to likely cost ALOT more that $1170 is the book rate for this and there is no wiggle room.

To make me feel like "this is cheap" they used an example from another car they have with a similar issue and they said it will be $17,000 to repair.

They said the damage is worse than I think, and they know it. Insunuating I am an idiot and have no idea what I am talking about.

So I am going to try to fix this myself, as of right now its probably sitting outside getting worse becuase they have done nothing to triage the situation.

So I'll pull the seats and plastic tomorrow and seal that vent as step #1 and start trying to get the mold/water under control.

At worse if I have to pay a car upholstery shop to replace the entire floor I'll still get away a million times cheaper than the dealer.

I cant even explain how bad my experience was with this service manager, how rude he was, and how insulting he was.

He said things like "Your not paying for how long it takes us to fix it, your paying for our experience and expertise" and sure thats true to some extent but not to the tune of $1200 for an inspection and they would then be paying another company to actually be doing the water/mold remediation those guys are the experts here.

This is the same place that I have taken my truck for service and had a repair done wrong twice, I have only had two things fixed on this truck under warranty and both times the repair was incomplete or wrong.

So hows that for this "experience" I am paying for?

What is really upsetting is I have the "Gold Wrap" premium extended warranty, and despite that they said it covers none of this.

I also was on the market to get a new car for my wife, and this was going to be where we got it from.

So not only did they lose any of my future service business, but they lost a new car sale too.

They didnt care a bit, so its time to move on and take things into my own hands.

My first and last Tacoma. My 4th and last Toyota.

My 2017 has been flooded now three times ruining thousands of dollars of my personal electronics.
    1. 3rd Brake Light.
    2. Rear window assembly
    3. Now these vents.

After the second go Toyota promised no more leaks. Gave me a platinum warranty to show they were confident in their craftsmanship. Only now that I need it this isn't covered under warranty, they claim, as others have pointed out in this thread. The whole reason they gave me the warranty in the first place was because they can't build a truck that doesn't pour water into the interior and promised my leak issues were behind me.

My 2016 Toyota Tacoma has water pouring into the cab vent. Every time it rains my carpet is wet. I've owned the truck for 6 months, bought it used from the Toyota dealership. They said that there is no open recall on those cab vents, and suggested that I open up a claim with my car insurance company because maybe they would pay for it to be replaced.

I went to automotive repair program for Ford and worked at a dealership (I knew id never be out of work!). Most of the techs at the dealerships were idiots that cut as many corners as possible to save time (=more $) or legit did know what they were doing and still tried to cut corners. There were a couple old heads that knew their shit, but 1000% never touched warranty repairs or this type of diagnostics as they couldn't make money on them. The "paying for our expertise" thing was thrown around there too, but was 100% bullshit. We had techs that were fired from jiffy lube. You pay for the name not the quality of work. All the warranty work goes to the newest guys that make the lowest hourly rate and know the least because the dealership cant make money on that type of work. I think this was them trying to be shady and make money on you.

I quit when I went back into the medical field to make real $$

The leaking cab vents were causing me grief until I found this and other threads and discovered the cause of the wet floor in my truck. A tube and a half of silicone caulk (and three tries to get them sealed) and I think the problem is solved.

Thanks for the help info everyone!
