2.7 towing 6000lbs + flat ground question

Morning,

need to move friends truck 400 feet or so. Truck is F250 probably weighs 6000 lbs + with upgrades and bed fuel tanks .. Flat ground Florida.. would my 2.7 3rd Gen. Auto be safely capable of such? I understand it’s more about stopping power than pulling power? No his truck won’t start due to various issues.

 

That short distance shouldn’t be a problem at all. Do the brakes work on the ford?

 

Yes they do.

 

That’s why they invented low gears.

You'll be good, you dont need low range, especially if its an automatic. It will do just fine.

Remember they won't have power brakes so stay on the phone with them and brake super slow.

 

Not saying to tow in 4WD, unless it’s a muddy road. Use the low gears and let the engine do the work, not the transmission. That is the trick to towing anything with an any model of Tacoma.
