Rear Bilstein 5100's with a 2 inch AAL.?

You are right in the middle there. Depending on your driving style, you would probably be good with the 0-1.5 but you will want to check your extended length to make sure you don't over extend the shock.
If you do the 2-2.5 you will want to check and modify your bump stop if necessary.

 

^^^ this helps. going with this setup very soon... been debating extended (B110's) vs. standard length 5100's for some time. since the extended would probably require some large bump stops and extended brake lines just for an AAL, I decided to go with standard 5100's. If I upgrade to full leaf packs, like Dakars, I'll probably upgrade to the extended length shocks.

 

Is there a way to run the extended 5100s and 2 inch wheelers add a leaf with the stock bump stops? How would you modify them in order to run them with the extended 5100s?

 

I have an 05 taco with factory suspension. I have an AAL that’s decently worn with a small droop from when it was put on, which is normal with my shell. I need new rear shocks and was wondering if I’m good with buying the standard length 5100s with the decently worn AAL? Or need extended ones? I’m sitting at 23.5” ride height in rear and I think with the AAL new would be around 24”-24.5. The AAL is 1.5”

also, the last owner put the AAL on with the factory suspension still in? So that makes me feel better that a smaller shock than the 5100 still even works? I’ve even done some light off-roading too so. Just hoping for some clarification and reassurance!

The standard

$104 24-186728 5100 Series Rear Shock fits 2005 2023 Tacoma 4WD with 0-1" Lift - Monotube Design, Fade Free Performance, Optimal Performance

24-186728 will not work, it will be too short on the extended length given your ride height measurement of 23.5"
The rear shock that would be a consideration would be a Bilstein 5125 Series Universal Stem to Eye in a 255/70 Valving and put a 12mm sleeve
in the eyelet. Part # is

Compressed Length: 16.10"
Travel: 10.20"

If you feel like you needed a touch longer shock and it was closer to a 24.5" ride height it would be a Bilstein 5125 series again

Same deal with the 12mm sleeve for the eyelet

I would double check your ride height measurement to be on the safe side.

Bilstein 5125 series shocks only have a 90 day warranty

Yeah the AAL has definitely sagged. I was doing some research and I should be sitting at like 24.5-25”, but instead sitting at 23.5”. So since it has sagged, would standard 5100s now work? I don’t want to go through the modifications in order to fit the 5125s

 

You will be fine to run the 5100 at 23.5"

The 5100 can be stretched to about 24" but after that then I would go 5125. Another benefit to the 5125 is to allow a lot more droop, but then check your brake lines and bumpstops, I often times see a lot more droop available for full leaf packs compared to an OEM pack and an add a leaf.

5125 is for 2-3.5" of lift.

The downside to installing the 5125 is that you might need to grind down the metal sleeve a small amount to fit in the ears on the bottom mount.

 

The 23.5” is my ride height, not my full extension…
What is the full extension of the stock 4600s that I have on right now. Wouldn’t just anything better than that work if the stock ones even work? I’m not understand that part.

 

The stock yellow shocks are not 4600's. Stock is 1.75" diameter shocks, 4600s are 2' diameter. Not sure on full extension on either.

 

Hmm okay. Guess I’m stuck in a pickle then.

 

Any other recommendations? Not looking to heavily modify anything unless it’s like a bump stop or something, I’m just a college freshman and don’t have access to a grinder.

I have a Trd off road, wouldn’t that mean I have upgraded shocks with the package, which would be the stock yellow ones I have. Sorry just curious

 

If your ride height is 23.5 from center of hub to fender then just go with the 5100s
