Small screen vs big screen

Let's not conflate different things.

Obstructing one's view of the road isn't a matter of opinion. Either it does or it doesn't.

That's what folks have been questioning/disputing.

Distracting? That's individual preference and if anyone's disputed that you find it distracting I've missed it. (other than expressing their opinion that they personally don't find it distracting)

 

You and I agree about the characterization of the ideas being discussed. I disagree if you are suggesting the predominance of opinions expressed relate to obstruction rather than distraction. I reviewed the whole thread. Distraction appears to be the overwhelming complaint by my review of the thread. We can agree to disagree. I'm good with that. I've appreciated your posts overall.

I take exception however to someone suggesting another's legitimate opinion is a fabrication, thus my first post on this topic in response to someone else.

 

Mine was the post you quoted. And my post that you quoted spoke specifically and only about whether the screen obstructs the view. I understand that distraction is a completely separate complaint, and I didn't address that at all in that post.

But since you brought it up, I will. I can certainly understand how a lot of interactions on any screen could be a distraction. No more distraction than hunting for a radio station like we did in the old days, eating a cheeseburger, beating the kids in the backseat with a flip-flop, or whatever. Driving is full of distractions, and in my opinion any distraction from that screen is way less significant than most of the others. If someone's stance is to avoid interacting with any screen at all when driving, I respect that opinion very much. But if you're going to be interacting with it at all, it's definitely safer to be interacting with a large screen where the information is easier to find and interpret quickly.

 

Back in the day, my aunt was always threatening to "flick an ash" in our eye if we didn't sit back and keep quite. Today, people just stare at their phones while they drive. Having the larger screen always me to glance at the screen and actually find what I'm looking for so I can get my eyes back on the road.

 

I am not. This is a two and a half month old thread; I was just addressing the recent claim of obstructed view and the responses to that.

I'll let you and @chuychanga work that out, but his post seems to be specifically referring to obstruction. While the number of obstruction claims might've been overstated, I didn't sense any disputation of others opinions or preferences.

 

There was a suggestion people were making things up to complain about regarding the larger screen in the post I originally quoted. That was my sole gripe.

But in essence we all seem to have a large degree of agreement. Larger screen does not obstruct unless perhaps you're very short. It does for many distract attention from the road and outside the truck environment even if it does not cause one to interact physically with it more often.

I think it was this thread where I complained about women drivers using phones behind the wheel. Today I'm on this little road it's only 25 mph and I probably wasn't going that fast as there's a stop sign atound the turn. I'm going around the turn and a see a Lexus NX or something every crossover looks the same to me. Just sitting there this woman is just sitting there texting in the curve about 1000' from the stop she doesn't even have her foot on the brake there's also a school across the road from the stop sign. What is it with the electronic devices and their constant need for your attention. Had I been distracted I would have rear ended her.

I feel like I'm singling them out, I get the womanly response to want to communicate and make sure things are well with the kids and family members, but they are the ones I've been seeing on the road with phone in hand I see some who drive aggressively, but that's usually the men.
