New here. Scrolled looking for this question and answer. Couldn't find one. Guy came to my house to dx whether I needed a new evap canister and although nice enough he wasn't prepared imo to really dx my problems.
He told me the part in the pic is bad but he couldn't name the part. He could feel it clicking when the truck was ideling and said it shouldn't be.
Can someone please tell me the name of the part and if it could be the cause to throw a code?
Check engine light is on for evap issue. Before I spend $440 on a new canister, if I can fix it without spending the $440 I'd be elated. I can also smell gas at times when its hot.

Find another mechanic, like one that doesn't come to your house that has a smoke machine to find the leak in the evap system.

I haven't found anyone in Vegas to do a smoke test other than a shop I was referred to who didn't dx it for what I went there for then after telling me all the other problems I had then asking to buy my truck. Shops in Vegas are sketchy. I'm still looking for an engine shop that I like and trust. Shop prices here are $140+ an hour. I'm tired of paying for crap and never finding out what's really wrong.
Do u know the name of the part?

Are you talking about the cylindrical part against the firewall? That's your brake booster. Attached to it (towards the front of the truck) is the brake master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.

Pretty sure that's your VSV for the Vapor Pressure Sensor

Well after asking my stupid question, I know it's just was a stupid question but I didn't know honestly what the part was called, I spent the weekend learning about the EVAP system and have decided to do the work myself. Canister is 18 years old and although I think the purge solenoid is the issue after my research, I decided to just fix it all at once along with the pcv which is leaking oil.
Haven't worked on a car in years but tired of being ripped off so as they say there's no time like the present to jump it and hope for the best. Any suggestions for a good code reader....
that will be my first buy. I'm looking at:
BlueDriver Bluetooth Professional OBDII Scan Tool for iPhone, iPad & Android
    Has anyone used this one?
Camelback Toyota here I come. Definitely worth saving over the $440 one my dealership wants.

That is the VSV for EVAP (different from VSV for vapor pressure sensor) and it is supposed to be clicking at idle. Mine does the same thing.

    What is your CEL code?

This was the part number that I used on my truck 25860-75160 (if you look at the VSV it actually has the part number on it)

The problem turned out to be the IAC valve; thanks for all the help

Defrost mirrors, compass/temp display rear view mirror, rear wiper on camper shell, trans.cooler.
If you remove the part from the bracket, you should see a Toyota part number you can then Google or call Toyota Parts Dept. for name.

No need to make a new thread for this, and kind of a stupid question, but how does this vsv attach to the bracket? I accidentally pulled mine out and now it just dangles. Is the little rubber glued on or something

Bluedriver is my goto tool on inital diagnosis, relativley quick but easy to understand, especially the smog check part. If I need to dig deeper I will get out one of my Snap On scan tools. Bluedriver on an iPad is a pretty neat combination, the iPad screen is large enough so that when you are driving you can see whats on the screen without glasses.
