    02. Replacing the muffler and tailpipe, one unit, walker SS version. Should be a warranty as the tail pipe rusted off.

Can't squeeze it in past the spare so trying to lower the spare, but, the rod seems to be slipping out of the slot. Was new with frame replacement some years ago and I have lowered it once before.

    Any fixes?

I can probably just remove the front pipe from the muffler to the rear cat, but I'll have to cut the bolts off. Think I have a gasket on hand.

Some day I will have to lower the spare anyway, so, ideas?

Buy two spray cans of penetrating oil, one roll of Teflon tape, plus one bag of coffee beans.

Be far more generous with the oil than you think is reasonable. Then go inside and make yourself a coffee. Wrap your rod end with the tape and try again.

Deflate the spare to alleviate any preload on the hoist mechanism and try again.

If that doesn't work, cut the cable if it's a cable hoist. Saw through the concave plate holding the center of the wheel if it's a chain hoist.

How do you reach that with the tire in stowed position? Is the tool supposed to fit in a slot or hook through that hole? Been so long since I did it last, don't remember. Owners book seems to say just slips in.

Basically into this box. It will be above the tire, which means you'll need a decent straw and some flexibility to hit it blindly through the wheel hub.

Edit: for future use, look into doing the "PVC pipe" mod. Some owners install a length of pipe that will guide the rod hook into the hoist without as much fuss. But first, you need to get the tire lowered.
