@Ozark_RegCab I've got $50 towards the proper fuel tank if you find one sooner

    Naw I believe you

I just know you mentioned not making a lot, and still having to deal with buying parts for a truck you're trying to get back on the road

This whole thread is rooting for ya, just sucks none of us are really in a better position to help

I hope no one’s gonna tell me the trans or drivelines changed somehow after 01, surely those should be a direct fit I’d think

Yea the whole Xterra thing set me back a lot. That was a really stupid decision, cause now I’m juggling two projects. And yea I’m only making 24 an hour so it’s not a lot. Someone told me Siemens hires techs with no experience at 70k so maybe I should look into that.

Yea I’m not in a huge rush, it’d actually be good to have more time to gather WYIT parts like a new clutch, RMS, hoses, etc. just lmk, thanks. I’ve got this shipping company that said they could store the truck for a bit at their facility in Airway Heights, so hopefully that’s all legit.

I’m working as an Environmental Planner. They’ve got me working on hazard mitigation plans and wildfire plans for random counties and some other GIS work here and there.

    @time623

Woman in Tempe arrested for a backyard zoo?

Apparently she was charging $5 for admission to show off her cat, bearded dragon, and a raccoon?

Could've made more capturing those scorpions and putting them in resin

@Ozark_RegCab I'm a bit late to the party but I do have some knowledge specific to fuel tanks. They're surprisingly fickle in terms of compatibility.

As y'all have already talked about, 5-lug trucks had smaller tanks than 6-lugs. All 6-lugs have 18 gallon tanks (with gauges that read empty after around 15 gallons used), but not all 18 gallon tanks are interchangeable.

See the annotations differentiating between "2WD", "4WD", "Regular Cab", and "Extra Cab". This is from my 1998 FSM, so Double Cab wasn't a thing yet.

    upload_2025-6-28_16-25-39.png

As y'all have also already talked about, the fuel line fittings changed from flare nuts to quick disconnects in 2001.

At the same time, the filler neck changed from a bolt-on assembly with a gasket (similar to the fuel pump assembly) to a neck that slides over a barb on the tank. I think the fuel necks also vary with cab style, because the fuel door is in a different place relative to the tank, but this might be accounted for by differences in the tanks.

The last change--moving the evap from the engine bay to the bed--actually happened in 2002. The relocated evap came with an additional vent valve on the tank, so you can't mix and match there. See picture below.

Here's a pic of my '98 regular cab tank (left) next to '01 extra cab tank (right). I framed the photo poorly and lost the fittings on my tank, but there are soft fuel lines leading to the flare nut fitting.

You can see the difference in filler necks, which is due to the difference in years. You can also see that all of the lines exiting the top of the tank are in slightly different locations--I'm not sure if that's because of different years, different body styles, or both.

Here are the lines above my '98 regular cab tanks:

Here's an '02-04 tank (not sure of cab style) with the extra vent valve visible.

    upload_2025-6-28_16-23-41.png

The '02 filler neck also has more vent/return lines than earlier years.

Yea it’s 6 hours from me but I liked it more than I thought I would in the downtown area, but the suburbs around it are kinda lame. It seemed kinda bougie and expensive though. It’s near a lot of good wheeling in the Owyhees.

Interesting, thanks. So I guess that 01 single can tank wouldn’t have worked after all.

Would any 96-00 extracab 6 lug tank work for my truck in that case?

The parts truck I got the trans and driveshaft from was a 2001 extracab, but that would still have the different fuel lines

It’s Moscow. A tiny college town in the middle of nowhere. Hard to even find people my age here.
