Please post if you find out. Was looking at installing a 2m/70cm antenna on the back window. I believe I read that the window glass itself has the tint made into it. Not a film.

I didn't ever find a definite answer but I did do some testing with my GMRS HT and Surecom SF-401 Plus. With the rear window closed and the HT next to the driver's head rest, I got a signal strength of 73 on the Surecom. With the window open it jumped to 90. I did the test a few times and numbers were pretty consistent. Looks like about a 20% reflection/attenuation on GMRS frequencies. Hope that helps.

I am planning to run HF once I get my truck. Did you need to bond the mount to the vehicle using grounding straps to ensure a good ground plane? Also, what antenna are you running?

I am may go with a Yaesu 891 and ATAS-120, but I have some time to plan my build, so I am open to other options.

    Thank you,

Funny timing with the title of this thread, I was cleaning out my garage last week and tossed my SWR meter in the garbage. I thought “I’ll never use a CB ever since I tried GMRS”.

Couldn't your meter be used for GMRS?

In case Ovrlndbigal does not answer:
Cheap SWR meters are very frequently dependent, I assume his was a cheap one since he threw it in the trash. Most likely only good for CB frequencies. Very good professional units have exchangeable units for each frequency range and are very sought after - not trash.

Correct! It was cheap but it worked for my needs back in the day. I might do a vehicle mounted GMRS later on but frankly handhelds have gotten so good and they’re cheap. Also I tend to roll solo or with one other vehicle so I really don’t talk much.

Just had my Cobra 29 installed.
    - I drilled/tapped the 4 holes for the mount since it moved a bit with only one factory bolt in the center.
    - 48” Driver Extreme Silver Bullet antenna
    - 20-watt amplified Speco PA horn.
    - Rugged Radios seat bracket mount.
    - Cali Raised OEM switch and dual leg wiring harness. (This lets me turn both the PA speaker and CB on with that switch and you don’t have to tap into any factory fuses.)
    - Tackform phone and cb mounts.
