I am looking for bigger more pronounced red tow hooks for my black SR5. The standard that most people seem to use are a bit under whelming. Has anyone tried these Tacoma hooks. Im sure they would need a little modification, like drilling a new hole location and longer bolts. Am I crazy for thinking this?

Have you seen these? A bit pricey but they are nice.

Yes, but these for a Tundra are less than half the price and are almost twice as big. Im just afraid they might look too big, 9" long.

Might have to do some measuring on the truck to see how big it would be. Maybe make a cardboard template for a visual

I installed the Bonobo Front Recovery Hooks and they are not small. They are quite a beefy real quality product and look great on my Pro. I would say that these are much stronger than the Tacoma mounts they are using on the truck to mount these. This is not a photo of my truck, but this is how they look.

I have the Bonobo product on my truck. But I was told in no uncertain terms the Toyota product was superior because they were made from steel.

In my opinion, the main purpose of such front hooks on a 4g Tacoma is for looks, ltiedowns, or just for towing on level ground. The weak point is the mount, not the hook itself on the 4g Tacoma. As far as the Bonobo, I can't imagine a situation where the hook failed before the mounting point itself. They are a really solid hunk of 6061 billet aluminum and boasts an impressive 11,000 lbs. working load limit. They are not cheaper than most steel hooks, and are a handsome design and look.

Good feature write up for steel vs aluminum Recovery Points:
