So I have a 2020 Tacoma Trd sport and I’m in the process of the badging and taking the TRD 4 x 4 stickers off.
I removed the stickers and on my driver side when I took the sticker off there’s like an indent where the sticker was and it’s not a ghost print. It’s more of like the clearcoat goes to where the sticker was and now it drops down to the base paint layer if that makes sense.. On my passenger side it’s just smooth and it matches there’s no indent, but the driver side you can rub your fingers across where the sticker was and feel the bump and you can see the clearcoat layer.

I’m just wondering what I should do to match it and make it look like The sticker was never there. I think what I plan on doing is sanding down the edge of the clearcoat to where it matches and reapplying a clearcoat and paint if needed.

I am not a body man, but I would wash it, then use a light cut wax, before sanding and clear coating. It is more likely a build up of dirt than a build up of clear coat.

I don’t believe it’s a build up of dirt or any other resido because e the texture is also different the rest of the truck has a smooth feel under the driver side stickerand you can visibly see and feel the bump/indent I also scrubbed pretty hard and waxed it thinking it was just dirt or something

Has the truck been resprayed? That looks like it was clear coated with the sticker in place.

Funny/not funny, that practically looks like it was stamped like a TRD Pro. Seriously though, I’m thinking the same as @Speedfreak. That looks like it was resprayed.

That's shoddy body shop work. That's been painted before and the sticker slapped on before it dried. The white paint even has a yellow hue to it.

Not the end of the world. Find a reputable body shop and get it fixed.

As others have said the only fix is to have that side of the bed repainted.

It was probably in an accident or it was repainted because of the defective white paint.

That truck has 100% been repainted, and they taped off the decal instead of removing it and buying a new one. There is nothing you can do here short of having the bed side stripped and repainted.

You can try to wet sand out the hard edge, but you might run into primer while sanding it.

isn't that the nightmare...you just wanted to debadge your truck... And now you're going down the rabbit hole of having to repaint the bedside

There are some devices that can measure paint thickness. May be able to borrow one somewhere.
