Thats a bummer. Mine is actually at the dealer right now for this. crossing my fingers. Ill make a formal complaint with toyota if nothing is done.
I was going to start with replacing the tensioner and check the idler pulleys and maybe a different brand belt

Be a big boy, walk into the service manager's office & call bull shit.....
Theres been a few posts here where 2 different repairs have been made...
I wouldnt stand for that, could be a total bullshit line the writer fed you right there..
or BS that the tech fed the writer..

    NEVER heard such a thing!!!
    Make some recordings of it.
I wouldnt have picked it up, I would have went directly to the service manager.
    But, thats me....

There doesnt have to be a safety issue to get it repaired...
If youre belt squeaked all day long, they wouldnt repair it cuz its not a safety issue?
If your new truck with 200 miles on it had really bad squeaky brakes, they wouldnt fix it cuz the squeak doesnt cause a safety concern?

This is one of the reasons I get so pissed, first of all everyone kicks it down the road cuz its never a convenient time....
Then you guys let these idiots just feed you BS & youre ok with it...

If they never duplicated the noise like you said they didnt, should have left it with them & not picked it up!!!

You should have also taken the keys, & told them you will be back in the morning to drive it with the tech & shop foreman to point out the noise...
That way they dont start it before you get there & hide the evidence...

Youre truck shouldn't be making this noise & there's a repair. Toyota doesnt need to call all the shots in every scenario.
They cant perform a simple warranty repair without getting the green light from someone on the phone who hasn't heard the noise?
& if they did, its from behind his desk....

As stated few guys here had the concern checked out, 1 tech replaced tensioner on 1 truck, while the other truck got an ac compressor.
They both claimed fixed for the Time being but im guessing 1 guy is mistaken....

    Sorry, this is BS.....

Read my post, dont pick it up if you get the call. Tell them to start it in the morning.
Dont accept an NPF, or normal characteristic, not a safety issue....

I heard the noise, its not normal....
Safety has nothing to do with it!
I really dont think youre going to get the same line of bologna, ide be shocked if you did....

Unless theyre aware & the engineers told them theyre researching it & theres no fix for the time being.
That info should have been expressed & communicated to the customer.
Thats different story & ok, you just need to follow-up. & be persistent...

KEEP US POSTED ON THE OUTCOME.

sorry, maybe i wasnt clear. the problem is I did go back there while they had it, took the lead tech for a ride to show him, and even I could not recreate the noise all of a sudden. after making sure myself 10 times this morning in the way there that it was still doing it! it's crazy lol

I have the truck now, and it's still just not happening anymore. I asked if they touched anything that could have inadvertently fixed it, and they insist they didn't, but they must have. maybe they wiggled the belt during the multipoint inspection and that fixed it or something. I have no idea. but it's not happening anymore at the moment.

if it never happens again, I'm fine with it. if it does, I'll be right back in there

Of course... Could not duplicate. they want me to have the tech ride with me to see if he can hear it and the service manager is out on vaca this week.
"well we cant fix anything if we cant find a problem..." is what they are sticking to right now. man o man this is one reason i left the industry years ago, techs just dont want to work.

Im betting they just put some belt lube on yours since they have no clue how to diagnose an issue like this. Im betting i cant get the noise to duplicate later today either.

will probably have to record it and stand at the managers door everyday after work till he does something about it. but in the end it just aint worth the aggrivation, i have dozens of other things to spend my time fighting that net more. I wish i was retired with nothing but time to sit and harass the service dept, but i dont.

its probably as simple as trying a different brand belt, so maybe that will be the next step

I got the sales manager involved and had the shop foreman ride with me and i got it to chirp. They put me in a rental and will look at it this morning. I asked that a couple techs be present when its started.

I dont expect much really, but all i ask is that they at least look like they are trying. I brought up that the belt and the tensioner is what i would be replacing here soon If they fail to diagnose it. so im at least hoping for a belt. with the amout of people that dont have this problem. im still betting that one of the two parts out of spec. The a/c always on issue im going to have to go higher in the food chain. Once this is all documented ill take it up with toyota corporate and see where it goes

they wanted to replace the belt and it was not in stock lol, it came in sat and they installed and didnt make a difference. they are going to replace the complete a/c compressor with clutch. But its on backorder... lol
Its something more than their stsndard BS, so it is what it is at the moment and we will see what comes of it once the part is avail in a few weeks.
