You have to be a serious buyer, do your homework, and start negotiating at dealerships.

They're not going to come here and make you an offer.

I just got a e-mail for 5k off any new truck from Ira here in NH. Deals seem to be out there, good luck.

Sure does. But the super duty has dual batteries rear locker upfitter switches and manual hubs still has an 8" screen LED headlights and a 4:30 9.5 rear end. It's a discounted 24 Regular Cab.
I know it don't make sense to compare them, and people don't really cross shop the two. And the Ford is going to ride like shit unloaded.

55k midsize don't make sense to me when Toyota sells a Tacoma for the mid to upper 30k range. Not saying it isn't worth to some people.

If someone has it on the lot and it hasn't sold sure they might be willing to deal.

Yes, but 4 - 5k off is still possible.

I agree. $8400 off is a little hard to believe though.

The only SR5 XC I see that's been there a while was in RI, I'm not chasing down a truck that might not be there let alone getting it at a discount of 10% off. All the Xcabs listed show high demand and I've seen them list with mark ups in some regions. That's my sign, I'm not wasting my time playing games for a truck I can't realistically test drive and walk away from.
And with out a trade to motive the dealer.

Okay, so don’t buy the $55k midsize?

you've laid out enough reasons why you are not going to be the person getting a very good deal. The trim you want is uncommon, publicized discounts aren't enough for you, and you're not willing to travel to find what you want. The ford you mentioned might be right for you if it's there in front of you and the price is right.

I would say figure out what you are getting for your 2020 and then GO TO THE DEALERS who have what you want (that is not spoken-for already). Looking for an SR5 is likely easier than the SR, at least from my experience in the Northeast, but the deals seem to be the best if the dealer has a Sport or and OR they have not been able to move quickly. $5K off is possible, but again, depends on instant demand. I got only $3K off, but then again, I got a halo trim and was willing to pay (through the nose) for it.

No I'm not doing myself any favors in that situation, the Ford isn't close either. I can find SR XC allocations or maybe even something in stock, but it's a rare configuration so I'll be paying close to TSRP if I want one. I can't see any dealer sweetening the deal, why would they?

Rare doesn't necessarily mean desirable. Some dealers who get an SR XC in their allocation probably think "How am I going to get rid of this unicorn?"
