Definitely better without the mud flaps…

I know (some) people frown on removing them, but if it was that big of a deal, it would be a DOT equipment rule for newly manufactured vehicles, and it's not. They're actually optional on the TRD OffRoad trim (even the TRD OffRoad Premium). It becomes a problem when they (tires) hang out far from the wheel wells which mine clearly do not. In addition, it's an issue when people tear off and accelerate harshly after loading some rocks into their treads, and I never do that. I also don't cut in front of people on the expressway which is often when it happens. I know because it's happened to be about 3-4 times, and every single time that's exactly what happened. Tires hanging 6" outside the wheel well, passed me on the left, cut over without enough distance, all under acceleration, and there goes the rock.

I'm retired LE, and it's absolutely not a vehicle equipment law in the State of Ohio. Nor is it a DOT regulation. Again, if it were that big of an issue, you wouldn't have to pay extra for them to get them on brand new Tacomas. It would be standard safety equipment. Not to mention, there are literally thousands of them on here that came from the factory without OEM mud flaps, posted all over this website, and nobody says a word 'bout any of them. People just tend to enjoy arguing on the internet for some odd reason. I just wanted to share photos / ideas for anyone who is considering 35s. Just be aware that you'll obviously need a lift, and depending on your wheel offset, you likely will have to remove OEM mud flaps and the piece near the mud flap.

Lol....I know. A few peeps on here got kinda testy on here, as you can see. I def can do that for ya! That's what makes this website so useful. You can get other people's ideas without wasting a bunch of money trying to figure out what fits, looks good, etc.

We’ll let you slide on that! Colt fan here. Several govt, and commanders! Your truck looks GREAT! I just dropped mine off today for the 3” lift and wheels and tires. I went 295 so 34” I believe. What offset are your wheels?

 

LOL!! I love the old classic Colts, as well. Thank you....much appreciated. It's hard to get it right actually. The wheels are Black Rhino Fuji and they're +38 Offset....

 

Make sure you post some photos once you get everything done. Gonna look good w/ that silver / black....

 

I’ll remain neutral in regards to the hot flap debate. That being said, if you want a little something to protect your paint a little you could get those micro flaps that ARK sell.

You have a white truck, you wont have an issue, it wont look like that......

 

My sport has some specs of chipping, never seen dirt....
Youre not the only one that "takes care of their stuff"
This issue has NOTHING to do with taking care of your truck or "driving carefully"....
Not worth the risk at all.....
Paint is soft & thin....
Put the flaps back on, or dont....
Even with stock offset, when the front wheels are turned just right & you have street debris, it will throw debris onto the bed....
Ive never spun my tires, never seen dirt, gravel, or anything, I drive slow...
its a pavement princess..
I put on the biggest non custom flaps there is.....

Here you go, a white one, stock, wont do that......
It also wont show the damage........

Does anyone make pre cut ppf for the rear quarter panel to prevent rock chips?

 

A combination of OEM mud flaps and OEM running boards provide 99% protection. My white TRD OR Premium has zero chips after one year.This is a Canadian model.
