Props to JBA on the easy upper ball joint swap process.

What kind of topper? If it's just a camper shell I'd stay with stock gearing. I regeared to 4.88 when I had 285/70/17 KO2's and a go fast camper. I think it helped when driving in the hills. I did it then because my plan was for 35's and full armor.

Anyone's help is greatly appreciated. 2011 4x4 v6 tacoma will roar when parked without hesitation but has difficulty accelerate when on expressway, specifically on overpass. Replace Mass Flow, Plugs, Clean Throttle Body, New air fliter, Transmission Oil change. Done 3 scans and no codes. Hope to hear any suggestion. Thanks and God Bless.

Partial list: Vagabond Drifter 3rd Gen OR rear axle 4.30 gears Bilstein 6112s and Tundra 5160s.
Why is that surprising? 8.75” ring gear instead of 8”, 32 spline larger diameter shafts instead of 30 spline, and the locker is electromagnetically engaged instead of using an actuator motor. (Assuming you get an axle assembly from a truck with a manual transmission and/or an OEM locker.) But the whole assembly bolts right up to second gen trucks. The differential housings are a quarter inch different in length, but that’s easily accommodated by the slip yolk. The hardest part is removing the e-brake cables from the old drums to re-attach to the new drums, then setting the star adjusters and e-brake tension. (At least, for me that is the hardest part because I’m not very familiar with drum brakes.) But the brakes are identical between the two generations. The locker only requires 12v power, a switch on the dash, and a relay.

Sometimes swapping the whole rear axle assembly and front diff from a third gen is cheaper than regearing, or cheaper than regearing and adding an aftermarket locker.

Nothing surprising about larger being stronger... I simply did not know that was a bolt on mod.... Thanks

Start a new thread about your issue, you will get much better response.
There are some very knowledgeable people here, but they are not going to see this buried in a 250k post thread
