Can you share a pic of your volume settings? Where I have mine is better than how it came but still less than ideal. The tags under volume balance are pretty nonsensical to me. Thanks.

So this is what I got so far.

    IMG_4731.jpg
    Go to settings.

F*ck. Give me a second to fix this lol.
    Edit coming.

    IMG_4732.jpg

    Factory > Volume balance settings

    IMG_4733.jpg

I have the nav slider set to max. This works in CarPlay.

    IMG_4734.jpg

    Settings < general < sound mix scale < 5.

This is the background sound volume that will be played over by notifications.

Check your phone settings and make sure sound check isn’t on. If on iPhone it’s in music settings. If on android I don’t have a clue.

This is what I got going on so far. I’m still going to tear into this more. Next step for me is developer mode or whatever it’s called and tear into coding. I love messing with shit.

I plan to dive in further because I feel like I shouldn’t have to have a slider pegged to get acceptable feedback.

Thanks - I see they have a newer firmware available. Will update (although it’s a pain and one loses all the settings), replicate your setup, and report back. Have you noticed that while using CarPlay, Google Maps voice navigation mostly doesn’t work or works with a delay, whereas Apple Maps voice navigation is much more in sync?

I haven’t tried using Google maps for navigation. Since I’m on iPhone my default nav app for CarPlay is Apple Maps.

Google maps is intriguing though since it can run satellite imagery, apple map cannot in CarPlay.

I’ll run onX on the headunit when I want satellite.

The only out of sync issue I’ve encountered so far is music on car play. You switch tracks. The text and album art changes faster than the music itself. Kind of petty but it pisses me off. The oem unit was in sync.

I think the music changing delay is more to do with it being a wireless carplay vs wired. I have had that issue in every wireless Carplay capable vehicle I've used.

Fair enough. This is my first wireless CarPlay endeavor.

On the oem unit I ran Bluetooth, I didnt like being tethered.

The standalone Joying GPS never worked on my headunit, not sure why. I have to use apple carplay for any maps.

I picked the larger screen non-JBL option, which is correct for my truck. My head unit arrived today, and there's an extra socket on the Joying plug-and-play harness that appears to go unused. I also noticed there's an unused socket on the back of the stock head unit in its OEM/original state. Was this the case with yours?

Uhhh guys. Usb port stopped working, pulled the unit to investigate and plugged in directly to the unit via the usb dongle and the dongle started smoking??? I’m lost in words, what do I do?

should I just plug in directly into the usb ports on the actual unit instead of the dongle or just stop charging?

edit: contacted joying and they were no help, saying I needed to replace the circuit board even though the unit works perfectly fine. The only thing I’m worried about at all is fire risk

Hey Everyone! I just bought my first tacoma (2015, touchscreen, non-JBL) and am in the process of installing a Joying head unit.

Here's the one I got: JY-TT187N4 (8GB+12GB, Model C). I like having a volume knob and the fit and finish is superb.

After Install, I've got two main issues:

    USB Connection for CarPlay
I took the advice of this group and purchased the timloon dual USB (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTKGN5PK?th=1). Install went smoothly. I can charge my device from both ports without issue. However, CarPlay is not working. When I enter the CarPlay menu on Joying, I am given the opportunity to connect via USB or BT. BT works but I liked the idea of using USB more. USB works for 10 seconds or so before not allowing CarPlay any longer. If I disconnect the cable and retry, the same thing happens. It never works long enough for CarPlay to boot up. I'd appreciate any feedback for this!

    Backup Camera No Signal
I liked the idea of using my OEM backup camera. I connected everything and got a no signal. I began searching the internet and stumbled across this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrEXDRf8t-8) which had quite a bit of positive feedback. I notice that this unit is different than mine but assumed most things would be the same.

I followed this video step by step with a few exceptions:
    - I used a white male AV wire instead of a yellow one (that's all I had lying around)
    - I used a 12ga wire instead of 14ga
    - My orange wire had a black line on it
    - For the Canbus, I set it to simple>toyota>tacoma

Looking forward to getting this bad boy up to 100%. Thank you all for the knowledge and resources!

For backup camera (assuming yours is NOT in rearview) did you try wiring like this?

This did not work for me. Once I had the wires in my hands I remembered that I'd tried this before making the modifications to the harness. Any other recommendations for me to try? Should I undo the wiring I've done? I'm confident in my work but if it gets me further from the solution I will gladly undo it!

    Thanks again for the help
