Pretty sure pop country music has been AI generated for years already. Pickup trucks, cuntry livin, bla bla..

In my opinion, the fake stuff should be pretty easy recognize

    I agree.

AI generated images are easy to spot, but with a lot of modern music being awful already, I'm not sure if I could tell the difference between AI music or not.

I believe in 5yrs or less I'll be able to ask my iPhone to make a whole new Aerosmith track. And it'll only cost $1.99 on iTunes and take 30 seconds to generate. Probably will have a premium option to add a music video.

My wife is really into AI generated art/gpt stuff and it's crazy how quick its context recognition has gotten in 2 years.

2 years ago, the text reminded me of old 90's Asian advertisement targeted at Americans "You buy good, TV happiness forever" and now it's carrying conversations with memory from input entered days ago, it holds a better conversation than me. So it's been dubbed Husband #2

In the future, we'll have to question whether a new track from a deceased artist was put together from old material or AI trained from the artist's catalog.

This is going to get ugly like back in the day when music was being pirated.

Now days, it's just insane what a concert costs. One of the staff members and I were just talking about this very thing. I joked and said "glad you are not a die hard Swifty" and then posted this:

    Ouch.

Honestly, I can’t always tell AI music apart from the “real” stuff anymore, especially with background tracks or even some pop tracks where everything feels so digital anyway. I messed around with some AI music makers out of curiosity and actually ended up using the music for a YouTube video intro. Nobody in the comments noticed or cared, they just said it sounded catchy. The tech has gotten way more convincing in the last year or two.
If you’re thinking of making something yourself, there are AI tools nowadays that take care of the copyright headaches by acting as a royalty free music generator, so at least you don’t have to worry about takedowns for your own projects.

I’m hopeful we’ll reach max saturation at some point and return to wanting to hear real music by real people. Or touch real things made by real hands.

Speaking of music and also writing and the broader idea of “art,” I work in a related field—and the results we get from using these AI “tools” is nearly always terrible.

The novelty will wear off. At least I hope it does.

The John Oliver segment on AI Slop captures many of the important details.
