Certainly more tolerable than 5.29 and MT!

Have had my 4.88s from Revolution gears for about 2.5 years now and they have been great. It will go through the gears and into 6th in no time. After I added OTT tune is where I saw the major difference with these gears. Great torque off the line from just daily driving and from awesome power on the interstate. I am running 34s, lifted, rock sliders and roof rack and it handles it like a champ. The only time it may struggle is when going up a steep hill, it will shift down a gear or two but it's very tolerable. I am not a fast driver, so I can't imagine driving with 5.29s

    Edit:
Forgot to mention that I have no gear howl with these gears. Also recently changed the diff oil 80w-90 and it still looked brand new!

This is what i like to hear. I am on 295s and going to order 4:88s next month. Everybody says just go 5.29 but 2200rpm at 70mph is too much for me. I'm in upstate NY and travel 80 miles everyday currently i get 18mpg with a light foot and don't want it to get much worse. i like the low highway RPMs on stock gearing, just not the gear jumping when in the mountains. I don't plan on bolting on 1,000lbs of camping gear/armor for daily driving.

Yeah you'll be fine. It can handle 80-90 mph on the interstate just fine. If you think you ever will go to 35s, I would still go with 5.29s just to future proof yourself. If you can though, I still always recommend getting a tune right after from whoever is local to you. I am sure it's the case with other tunes as well, but with OTT I can hit ECT for even more throttle response if I ever need it to get up and going. I will preach it to this day, the tune makes the most difference for these trucks and even more after the regear.
