Rear Seat Delete Decks

If you're going full on permanent delete, I saw a couple that take out the metal storage that the front of the seat anchors to. They had drawers in there and were able to keep a lower profile for the dogs getting in and out. I'm thinking about that as the Taco is gonna be around for a while and it's usually me and the dog.

Do it. Most people on this thread have made their own variations on the theme. It can be as simple as throwing a kennel deck back there, or two TSTAK II boxes and a bed rug, or as involved as you want.

 

Hello, I saw all of your guy's rear seat delete set ups. They're all pretty badass.

I wanted to inquire about the rear seat brackets.
It appears you guys are taking them out.

The larger square ones at the top of the rear seat. When I bought my Tacoma. The prior owner used his for over landing. And the rear seats were removed. I am currently attempting to reinstall. If you aren't using yours.

Can I purchase them from you? I can attach a reference picture if you need to see the part I am asking about

They're the larger red square brackets. The seats locks into it. I would be eternally grateful to anyone who will sell me their old ones. Or spare ones.


I have a kid on the way now and I need my backseats. So my over landing days are behind me for a few years until he is big enough to ride up front.

Do you get enough space to be able to open that up very easily?

 

It clears the back wall easily enough. It could use something to hold it in the open position. Gas struts would be overkill, so maybe a strap or prop rod.

 

I'd like to maximize my deck (obviously) forward while using the seat hinge. I'll probably take the lid off the cubbies so the degree of pivot is not an issue. I'll bet a prop like hood uses would work.

Guess, I am going rebuild the rear deck once this is finished out...

But have a Goose Gear Fridge Slide and some Milwaukee Packouts ready to mount onto the rear seat delete 2.0 setup.

 

Pretty easy seat delete. Removed back seats, replaced with some marine board that I covered in speaker carpet. Used eye nuts and bolts/washers to secure it all to the factory seat brackets. I did this last year, wanted to save all the measurements and what not so when I finally got around to posting I could share those, but, I had to reset my laptop in the meantime and lost all the info.

 

I built this aluminum one 3 years ago. I pretty much sold it at cost after about a year, hopefully the guy who bought it is still enjoying it.

 

After having this bolted in all last season I’m finally getting around to putting the finishing touches on it this year. Fresh paint today, had to take pics. I’ve got a southco latch for the door, kinda matches the gfc. I’ll post again once it’s installed.

 

Just made a rear seat delete platform that can easily removed so if I need my rear seat it takes less than 5 minutes to put it back in.

 

Got my 60% side delete from SHW Offroad installed. As a reminder for 2nd gen owners interested in this, it’s designed for the 3rd gen, but fit with some minimal trimming.

They’ve made some changes to the design recently, so it no longer wraps around the cup holder portion of the center console. Their website still shows the old design and no mention was made of the change, so there was some obvious confusion once I started laying out the pieces to assemble. The good news is that this change allows for the front seats to have more rearward travel than with the previous design.

They’ve also changed the finish, and it doesn’t seem very durable, to be honest. There were multiple chips in the finish upon opening the shipping box, and after a few days of very careful use, more of the finish has chipped off around the edges. Also, one of the pieces didn’t get fully milled out where the hardware installs, so that took some extra work on my end.

If you’re a 2nd gen owner who is interested, you’ll have to use a table saw to trim about an inch or so off the edge closest to the door panel, as it sticks out too far. Luckily, the portion that sticks out seems purely decorative, and won’t affect the structure.

There are some killer ideas in here! As soon as my plate is clear I'll start working on mine and post up. Currently just have a plywood platform - boring, but functional.

 

I've been lurking the rear seat delete stuff here ever since I got my truck in 21, I have seen so many creative and interesting ideas, being that 1 size doesn't fit all Goose gear isn't for me, my truck is a daily driver commuting to work etc. but I do like to get 2 or 3 road trips a year in going to the Nevada desert and also the mountains NW Montana.

Plan: 1st at the back I will most likely be goin with a 2x4 running across the bottom that will be the mounting point for piano hinges for the base and the back panel, back panel I'm looking at 3/16 ABS so as that I can give it a mold to curve back to the bottom of the window and sides to seal off at each side, I am planning on this being offset approximately 3" to 4" from the molle panel that is getting mounted to the back "just enough room for whatever I want concealed back there" using ford truck rear seat latches and wire I believe I can make this so as that the ABS back panel latches and hides everything mounted to the molle panel, via wire to the latches Im not sure yet "have some ideas but trial and error will determine the outcome on this" the back panel will not have an obvious way to open it, basically going to make a hidden way of opening it.
base will be plywood and both the base and the ABS panel I'll do a dark grey and black vinyl covering on to match with the rest of my interior "not worried about vinyl getting messed up"
obviously lots of sound deadener / insulation to keep road noise to a minimum

I started ordering everything for my build recently and plan on getting to in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
once I get this all done I'll post pics and maybe a vid if I can figure out how to do that
