Another day another article. We have been so focused on getting everything right that we often times have to make many incremental changes. This doesn't work out well when you are dealing with a large outfit that only does big fabrication jobs. We need someone as nimble as we are until we are into full production.

This article we just wrote is about that process:

Finished up a whole slew of install, disassembly, and explanation videos so we are gonna flood you all with those :p

    First up:
*This only applies to 2ND and 3RD Generation Tacomas with OEM manual seats*

Once the OEM seat is out of the Tacoma, and the seat rails have been removed from the seat, its now time to remove the "tower" from the rails. This is necessary because the towers are not used in the installation of the Tolerance Stack seat mount. In order to get the scheel-mann Vario seat as close to the seat rails as possible, to keep the overall seat height similar to OEM, the towers must be removed.

The process in removing the seat seat towers is very easy but does require some tools to make the job easier:
    • Goggles
    • Wire wheel with a drill mount
    • Small cut-off wheel with a drill mount
    • Black Sharpie
    • Drill and drill bits
    • Small hand file

Once tools are in hand then its time to prep the rails for installation:
    • Mount the rails onto scrap wood to have it rest secured while working on them
    • Find the two spot welds on the tower portion of the rails
    • Use wire wheel to remove any rust in the area
    • Use a Sharpie to mark the spot welds with a circle
    • Use the cut-off wheel to cut an "X" in the spot welds
    • Starting with a 3/8" drill bit start drilling out the "X" on the spot welds
    • Move up sizes of drill bits as necessary
    • Once the tower is off you do not need to do any more drilling
    • Use the hand file to smooth out the area and remove any burrs

NOTE: Be sure not to get any metal shavings into the seat rail because there is grease and bearings in the sliding rail. Also, if your rails are particularly rusty you can use the same wire wheel to remove the unwanted rust and/or you can let the rails sit upside down in a bath of vinegar over night to remove the rust. Be sure to NOT let the sliding rails sit in the vinegar bath.

    Another day another article written.

At Tolerance Stack, we're committed to providing not only robust and precise mounting solutions to attach the scheel-mann Vario F to your vehicle, but also components with exceptional durability and a lasting finish. A key element in achieving this is the anodizing process we utilize for our mounting system side panels.

We do not have a customer with a 3rd Gen in the North East but we did just ship out an order to NY for a 5th Gen 4Runner.

If you are attending Overland Expo next week in Redmond, Oregon please stop by the @scheelmannusa booth at G100 and see, well the same thing we had last year but also all the new stuff we are introducing. Plus if you've ever considered scheel-mann seats NOW is the perfect time to get some butt-in-seat time.

Anyone who's tried to upgrade their 5th Generation Toyota 4Runner's driver seat knows the frustration. You research the perfect orthopedic seat, maybe even settle on a premium scheel-mann Vario F, only to discover that even attempting a DIY install creates a nightmare of dashboard warning lights, electronic errors, and lost functionality. The 4Runner's sophisticated computer systems don't take kindly to aftermarket modifications, especially when it comes to safety-critical components like seats.

That's exactly the problem Tolerance Stack sets out to solve with the 5th Gen 4Runner Driver's Side Seat Mounting Kit—and it wasn't just solved, it was revolutionized.

Read all about it in our newest article:

If you are at Overland Expo PNW over the next few days, stop by booth G100 and see up close what is involved in swapping out your clapped-out OEM Toyota Tacoma, FJCruiser or 4Runner seats and upgrading into a fresh set of #scheelmanusa Vario seats. See first hand at the huge amount of engineering required to make NOT having error codes and dashlights happen.

Only time will tell if Overland Expo PNW was a raging success or not. We can say with confidence that it was great for networking. But it also was interesting in that we may need to adjust our internal marketing efforts. The reason is because we had two common remarks:

    1. "We didn't even know you existed"
    2. "Had no idea it was possible to upgrade our Toyota's seats"

It seems that physically SEEING our mounting system installed inside of Jason's (tacodust on IG) 2nd Gen Tacoma brought the reality home for quite a few. Yes folks you can swap out your clapped out OEM seats in favor of something much more comfortable and do it fairly quickly and without any dash warning lights or computer errors.

Made some switch bezels and threw them up on the site.

If you find yourself with a need for adding two more switches to your array of aftermarket options, or if you want a switch location that is closer to the seats on the center console, we have you covered. Using the supplied cutting templtes you can Dremel out a small section of the ridge of the console so that you can then press-in a new switch bezel that can fit Toyota Tacoma rectangular switches or aftermarket switches of the same size. Its an area no one else has considered and by the time you are done it looks like the switches belongs there.

We typically don't hear back from our customers once everything is installed and their trips have already begun. But usually after a few months of radio silence we like to send out a quick note just as a follow up to make sure everything is going well. This time we got some great feedback. This is of course all about the seats and not our part of it BUT if it wasn't for our part of it most customers wouldn't be able to enjoy their scheel-mann seats. We know the seats are the hero, we are just here to play the supporting role :p
