    2004 trd Tacoma 4 by 4.
It has a push button 4wd transfer case
I bought a used transfer case without the electronic push button
Will the manual shift inv4wd work if I put new shifter in?
The electronic in transfer case is over 2000. From dealership .
Does anyone know if this will work?
Or am I better off spending the money on new electronic transfer case

I think I remember the input and/or output shafts are different between the automatic trans and manual.

Otherwise, there is a sensor or two and/or a plug you currently have with the AUTO 2-4 SELECT transfer case that won’t connect to the manual one and may cause light(s) on your dash. I’m too lazy to research the wiring diagrams to solve your problem since I don’t own a 1st gen anymore, but that’s enough info for you to research with.

Transfer is stuck in 4wd. Lights flashing
Changed add actuator. And 4wd ecu.
Told it needs transfer case actuator. There 2 plus grand. And you gotta take transfer out in order to install actuator in transfer case

Your truck's existing 4WD system and 4WD ECU in particular won't get the signal from the new Tcase that the tcase has engaged 4WD and therefore will not trigger the front diff ADD actuator to engage, and you won't have working 4wd. Thats just the electronic side of things.

Then there's the hardware side and the question of compatibility with input/output shafts. I'm no expert, but I'm positive you can't just swap in this new Tcase and be rocking and rolling.

Your best bet will likely be to either fix your existing Tcase or find a used one for cheaper than Toyota is quoting you. I can't believe there are any new push button Tcases for 2004 Tacomas available on the shelf.

I would suggest disassembling your current Tcase actuator and trying to clean it up and get it unstuck. Good chance you fix this issue with little more than some time and some elbow grease

Pull the connector on the actuator. Measure resistance between pins 1 & 2. Should have a reading of 0.3 - 100 ohms. Then get reading from pin 1 to body ground and pin 2 to body ground. Reading should be 0.5 Mohm or higher

Ok will try that when my son is ready to park it for a couple days.
I’ve seen transfer case actuators on eBay
Are they worth buying? If I could get the right one?
