I sold my last 1st gen Tacoma back in 2013. I loved that truck.

    TLDR background:
I was commuting for work a lot, so bought a Corolla. Then we moved to the city (Chicago) and only had one parking spot, so I gave our daughter the Corolla when she went to college and drove my wife's car for the reverse commute. She had a work-from-home job. Fast forward to Covid years, Chicago got crazy with riots, taxes constantly going up, etc. etc. and no longer feeling predictably safe and it was time to move, so out to Arizona we went. I've been driving my wife's company car mostly since moving out here. She wanted something of here own so bought a Lexus IS350... two years later she's more comfortable in the company vehicle (GMC Yukon with Supercruise), so we weren't driving the Lexus much. She wants to keep driving larger vehicles to feel safer, so the car was just sitting. I've been wanting a truck ever since selling my Tacoma and thought of buying a larger GMC, Ford or Tundra, but since none of the new trucks seem to not have major engine or transmission issues, I started looking for another Tacoma. I didn't want to spend the crazy amount of money for a new large truck either.

Looking on Craigslist and FBM, I found a local dealer with a used 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad with about 30k miles. Looked nice and had the 6' bed. That was something I never liked about the 1st gen was the tiny bed.
Went to look at it just to see if I'd like it and what do you know... I did. When I got to the dealer I walked over to look at it and noticed it had upgraded full suspension, new wheels and tires and a few other goodies. Price was ok, so I called my wife and said it would be a good truck and we could trade in the Lexus. Signed that night, picked it up yesterday.

    So, 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad
    • full Old Man Emu BP51 suspension
    • OME upper control arms
    • OME leaf springs
    • BF Goodrich 285x70x17 tires
    • Nomad wheels
    • RCI front skid plate
    • bed stiffeners
    • Greenlane Offroad front winch bumper (thanks K9tacoma for the id and link)
    • bed plate with aluminum rails and tie downs (never seen one, so not quite sure what to make of it)
The suspension is overkill for the way I drive, but I guess it's nice to have. My 1st gen had OME and Bilstein shocks that I really liked.

Plan for upgrades are probably just a cap or tonneau for the bed and minor things.

Thanks. I couldn't find it. Searched for a hour or more, tried Google Lens, image search, forums.... nothing was coming up.

My 1st gen, I spent a lot of time researching, so it's nice to have most of the hard work already done. Not that I minded learning about every part on the market for every aspect that I wanted to upgrade or update, but it's nice to have good parts from the start.

Wish I knew who built it. Someone out of Las Cruces, New Mexico, then they had it serviced at a shop in Prescott, AZ at Summit 4x4 Co. That's what's on the Carfax report.
The original owner seems to know what they were doing and spent some good money on the parts. I guess this one, I can say, "bought, not built." :) That's ok, I built my last one after the Chicago rust belt destroyed things over the 10+ years I had it.

Now I need to track down some instructions for the OME BP51 suspension. I don't know much about it and I need to find the wrench for adjusting the shocks. It didn't come with any of those extras.

3rd gen is the best gen! Those long beds look just perfect up in the air a little bit.

Yeah, I agree. Those double cab long beds need a lift and some larger tires.

Just ordered a roll up hard tonneau cover, ceramic coat, other cleaning stuff, a RAM mount for my phone, and the center console organizer.
I had a the folder bak hard cover on my wife's last company vehicle, which I mostly dove (GMC Seirra HD AT4X AEV). I didn't like when I folded it up, it completely blocked the back window. It had a rear camera mirror and rear camera, but I didn't like the foldup anyways. Thought I'd try the roller this time and the TS model gives the option to add a riser bars with the T-slots that this model has.
Think I may add some sliders to the side, so if my wife gets in she has a step. The Greenlane aluminum sliders look nice.

The bed plate does look custom. I'm curious to see if I'll use it, or end up taking it out. Would be great if I was into overlanding and needed tie-downs for a fridge and other things, but if I travel, it's usually with my wife and small dog. Wife likes real bathrooms and real showers. If I do end up camping on my own or with some friends, maybe it'll come in handy. Lots of areas to explore here in AZ and the states nearby.

That is a fine truck and beyond super clean. I wonder why the previous owner upgraded the suspension kept it so clean and then got rid of it?

dealer I bought it from was a Ram dealer. Said the guy came in and bought a new full size Ram and traded his Tacoma . I'm assuming he needed more tow power or more room.
