So I scored a good deal on some 34’s. I already did some cutting to make them fit well and I have a lift kit on the way. When I went to put the wheels on last night, I realize they were close to the calipers But I didn’t know they were going to grind. I’m just wondering if anyone has ground down their calipers so they don’t grind each other. I don’t really want to run spacers because the wheels already have quite a bit of negative offset and they are just barely touching the caliper so I only need to grind off a small amount. Is it safe?

I have seen calipers cleaned up for painting by grinding off rough surfaces so I don’t think maybe an 1/8 inch or even a little more would hurt anything.

Well I couldn’t wait and I ended up shaving it off already. I think I probably only took off 1/16 to 1/8 inch. I can probably fit a piece of paper in between the caliper and the wheel. I’m hoping that is enough clearance.

A quick google search says 1mm is sufficient but preferably 3mm.

    welcome to TW!!

im assuming these are steelies? soft 8/ d windows?

agree you need to grind so at least a folded piece of paper fits. the steel wheels will flex and rub more than you expect . 1/8” should be ok, the caliper castings are pretty thick. ymmv, not a lawyer, etc

Yeah you got the wheels right haha, I am throwing on a lift and new cv boots next week so I’ll do a little more grinding in the close spots so I have more clearance. Thanks for the tips
