Every night I would leave my deceased red squirrels on the stump at the corner of our property. Every morning they would be gone. Someone ate them anyway.

Absolutely, I shoot with a Sony A7C, and at night I use the Rokinon 12mm 2.8 fisheye.

Oh, and I got a pretty good tripod, it was maybe $130 on sale. Carbon fiber, four segment with Y-shaped center column and a ball head. Another TW member convinced me to buy one, and damn, he was right. I can't find it offered for sale any more, so I will be super pissed if I ever lose it. For what it's worth, the model was LY-224C from Leofoto.

Shots are always 30 seconds f/2.8, usually at ISO 800. That's generally quite underexposed, but I can crank up the exposure and get the same result, and I don't have to worry as much about accidentally blowing it out with LED lights.

Then I develop with software -- I use Photoshop because I have a license thru work, but their subscription model is a crime against humanity, and I hate to endorse it. There are free open-source options, and inexpensive paid (non-subscription) options. I just haven't tried them.

Edit: I just saw that ON1 is on sale for $40 today, so I decided to give it a try. It appears to be less powerful than Adobe, but I'd still call it a solid deal at that price point. And importantly, it is not a vicious scam, like Adobe. Here's a quick attempt to develop the same photo in ON1, from a first-time user:

    DSC08979 1.jpg

Biggest shortcoming I can see is lack of perspective and lens correction, which wasn't needed for this shot anyway. The software has lens correction options, but it can't defish a 12mm fisheye as far as I can tell. I also see obnoxious artifacts around the brighter stars, but not visible at TW resolution. Maybe someday I can figure out how to tune it to work better.

I post a lot of pictures of this place. I also a lot of pictures of guns and chainsaws. Mostly .22 rifles and Husqvarnas. I just love to be outside doing outdoor stuff. That’s what I do for fun. I go outside. (Entry)IMG_0496.jpg

Thats a nice camera. Thanks for sharing the info on that tripod. I looked some up and man they are pricey but seem totally worth it. I been using a SLIK tripod nothing fancy but works. I think its time to upgrade and the Leofoto looks pretty good.

Personally, I think it’s easier for people to look at the challenge in the poll instead of scrolling to the 2nd post, if @LarryDangerfield doesn’t mind changing it. It’s just easier and less confusing at the top for all involved.
