Before dropping big money on a turbo guess just get a Chinese clone for $200. Just a thought.

So slightly off topic but there are some good thinkers in here..

Anyone know of a good 12v Pwm fan controller?

Want to switch out the crank fan on wifes 2nd gen to a Camaro or similar (open to ideas).

Basically its hot af here in Az and Id like the fan speed to be higher when shes at idle/low speed stop and go. Ac is nice at highway or city street speeds. Just had it charged. No leaks (bad schrader).

Maybe I just cheap out and add a E fan to the front of condenser, maybe not.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I could make one pretty easy with an Arduino, temp probe (could scan CANbus for vehicle temp too but that's more involved), and the usual Bosch fan control unit from a modern car. What kinda car though, might have some features built in we can work with...

That G30-770 is only a few mm larger than the turbo in my 2rz. Realistically I can only make about 400whp on pump gas. For 3x the price of mine I'm sure it spools up faster and has more up top.

@Torspd beat me to it, I have a chevy electric fan with that Leginf controller, and a water temperature sensor in the radiator hose. IN my research, most seem to prefer the sensor at the T-stat outlet, I installed mine at the outlet of the radiator, becasue why run the fan if the free air is adequate cooling, only need the fan when free-air is not enough.

the controller is multi use for almost any type fan, and is variable speed also. Includes a simple trigger wire that makes the fan run at 100% speed, when signaled, though even this was too much fan for me, Instead I wired a resistor on a relay such that the resistor is in parallel with the T-sensor when the AC needs more cooling, making the fan speed increase, but but not run full bore. Works nice. instructions are available online, tell you all the capability and compatibility.

Any how, great controller, claims to be waterproof, though I installed it in a hobby box, to make it more subtle, and protect it from water.

I appreciate all the feedback on this. I just realized maybe the fan clutch is going out. Havnt seen the guage move.

I just compared spinning the fans between my 4runner (very cold Ac) and the 2nd gen taco, taco spins much more freely. This is probably the problem.

Keep us posted on how the clutch change helps or not.

So I just swapped the fan clutch out with one from a 5vz. Same bolt pattern for fan blade and mount. Only physical difference is back spacing. 1gr is about 1/4 or so longer.

Ac feels way better at idle so far. Not a perfect comparison because sun went down. The old clutch was definitely loose compared to the "new" one. This atleast gives me time to get fluid for the old one. IMG_3443.jpg

No signs of the fluid leaking out?

The main thing you'd see is better flow with same size turbine housing with lighter components. So your have better spool, and less flow drop off in higher rpm. Fantastic if maxing a setup or going for the most efficiency, but on setups like ours, we don't really gain much, especially not enough to justify the upgrade cost

Made more progress on my t4 divided single turbo setup for my RX7 yesterday. Pretty stoked on how it's turning out. Next week back on the Tacoma turbo setup!20250703_182859.jpg 20250703_182406.jpg
