I had a friend with a key programmer from Tom's Keys come by. I had bought two blank keys of Amazon and got them cut. They opened the doors and turn the ignition fine. But when he went to program them, they blinked 2x then 3x.

According to Tom's Key's website that means the memory is full.

I have two keys programmed keys with fob built in that came with the truck.

I'm assuming the previous owners had two keys of their own programmed in.

How do I delete all the other keys except for my current two master keys?

You probably need Techstream, or someone with a working copy and the right type of obd device for the computer/techstream interface that can help you. There seems to be only 2 choices of products that actually work with techstream, with limited discussions on these forums.

Which OBD device are you using? If other posters are correct, only Tactrix openport 2.0 (usa made $169, also used for tuning) and VXDIAG (from prc, $76-$120) actually work.

i’m considering trying to get a working copy of techstream going myself, but hope to find the best recent set of how to before buying a new adapter. My experience with a $25 usb j2534 adapter was never got it to work.

I ran into a similar issue with my '17 OR MT.

I had ordered spares from Amazon, but found out that I had the wrong generation of electronics inside them (physically looked the same). I was working with a fairly big and reputable locksmith shop. They ordered the right keys for not much more than the Amazon ones. It took a few attempts with the equipment he had, but it entailed clearing all existing keys and reprograming the maximum of 4, but they've been fine, ever since.

Do you know how many keys you are allowed to have programmed in?
you have 2 that came with the truck, are you assuming the previous owner kept the 2 keys they had and they are still programmed in the truck? Does that mean the dealer you got it from did not delete the previous owners 2 keys and added 2 more to the truck and gave them to you? If so, wouldn't that mean the previous owner could find the truck and use their keys to drive it away?
Or maybe the truck can only have 2 keys at a time?
    I'm not sure, that's why i'm asking.

    Tom's Keys programmer

Tom's Keys claim 4. I've seen 5 on other reports.

I received 2 fobs and a valet key. I ordered two keys off Amazon that matched the FCC id. The first key I programmed took. Then I programmed the second and it blinked 2x then 3x. When I went to try the first key again it blinked 2x then 3x. Tried to reprogram it and kept getting the same result.

So just an update. I had to get the older programmer from Tom's Key. The newer one doesn't allow you to remove or delete key fobs.

The older programmer comes with a phone and an app (they don't picture it on their website when you buy it but it comes in the box with the OBD2 device).

I was able to remove every key except the original and then program the new keys. All work without issues. The key fob works, the keys turn in the lock and open the driver door and bed and they all start the truck in the ignition.

The TSL-2 (the purple box) is the one I needed.

The TSL-1 (orange colored OBD2 device) only lets you program and add keys. You cannot delete keys with this programmer. This programmer doesn't come with the phone and app.

Also the TechStream software I have, doesnt work because my bare bones Dell laptop doesn't have the proper system resources to run it. Which sucks.

Do you have a MT with the H key? I have been looking for a valet key for my 2023 TRD Pro with 6MT, but cannot find one and the dealer is no help.

I have a 6MT, so it does not come with push button start. It has was is known as an "H" Key, which is a conventional fob with lock, unlock, alert, etc., that you put in to the ignition switch to turn on the engine. Is that what you have, and if so how did you get a valet key? The Tacomas with push button start have a fob with a removable metal key that can be used to lock the glove compartment. Then the fob, minus metal key is given to the valet. Which key do you have?

My truck came with a valet key and a standard key fob.

But the main key is an H key and so are the extras I ordered off Amazon.

This is where I got my replacement keys. I either have 4 or 5 keys total now. Can't remember.

All four of my keys are stamped with an "H".

All four work, all four unlock doors and start the truck. So maybe I don't have a valet key afterall.

    I thought I did.

So maybe check Tom's keys, Denso and Amazon and ebay for what you need.

I think valet keys are no longer offered. A valet key was capable of starting the engine, but incapable of opening the glove box. Our H-keys start the engine but also unlock the glove box. In the old days the valet keys were typically a different color, like a light gray. If anyone knows whether they are still available, please chime in.

I see them available up until 2019. After that I can't find anything.

So he could always order one and have it cut and try to program it. Any hardware store can cut it. He'll need a Tom's key programmer to program it. About a $90 gamble.
