If those Buicks all had the 3800 V6, then that is actually not shocking mileage! My best friend’s first car was a 1997 Oldsmobile 88 LS (with the 3800 Series II) that he bought from the original owner for $1,500. The car had just 60K miles on, and aside from needing a paint job, it was in perfect condition! My friend installed an upgraded stereo system and a remote started, but aside from routine maintenance and periodically needing the A/C recharged (and getting it repainted), that car was rock solid! I believe it had like 150K or 160K on it when he traded it for a 2006 Nissan Maxima SL in 2010. The dealership gave him exactly what he’d paid for it back in 2005!

He bought the Maxima with like 38K miles on it in 2010, and it had close to 170K on it when he traded it for a 2013 Nissan Altima in 2016! The 2013 Altima was trouble-free at first, but then the CVT started to slip at 93K miles (right after he paid it off, go figure). He traded the Altima for a certified preowned 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe with only 4,000 miles on it right before COVID. In 2023, the transmission in the Hyundai failed at like 70K miles. Thankfully, Hyundai paid for a new one because the vehicle was covered by the 10-year/100K mile powertrain warranty. He traded the Hyundai for a loaded 2021 Subaru Outback in 2023 or 2024, which he paid off early, and so far hasn’t had any trouble.
