Man I wouldn't even know what's hard to come by or anything.

If anything, Fusion Frenzy if you had a copy to sell. I remember playing the shit out of that with friends when we were done doing Halo matches.

@Wulf was going to be my go-to IF I modded it but I don't know, I kind of don't want to mod this one! Just reliability mods if there is such a thing.

I upgraded the power supply on both my Dreamcast and Saturn. I'll have to see what options are available for the Xbox.

Anything I should specifically look for outside of swollen/old caps?

I thought I had that actually but just looked and I don't. Got a lot of other random stuff. When the console was just old and not retro I'd buy random bundles for a few bucks. There's a new USB C power supply coming on the market for the xbox which is neat.

Honestly modding kind of is a reliability thing, because apart from the clock cap the optical drives seem to be the next thing to go, so running games off the hard disk lets you preserve them.

And if you haven’t soft-modded to obtain or null out the hdd key in the bios (they’re serial locked to the specific motherboard), then if the hard drive dies the only way to recover is to install a hardware mod chip.

Disclaimer, this knowledge may be 5 years out of date, haven’t touched mine in a while

That's a thing with the Dreamcast but damn, Xbox too? I thought it'd need a big PSU that wouldn't be handled by USB-C.

Gotta bust mine back out for a Fusion Frenzy reunion though, so many good times. And Rallysport (2) held up pretty good too from what I remember, although I haven’t played it since taking up Dirt

Yeah that's where I was going to ask Kira for suggestions.

Not that Xbox roms aren't available, I just found that emulation for it isn't the best unless the roms just run like the real thing on the actual Xbox hardware.

I've done (and play a lot of) emulation on PC but I will plug in and play on console for a few days at a time. I've got an ODE on my Gamecube, Saturn, and Dreamcast but only because emulation is done so well on them.

I wasn't sure if it'd work the same on Xbox since emulation on PC just doesn't work well or maybe every emulator sucks?

If you run the game/ROM (really a collection of files with an xbe executable) from the hard drive of the Xbox itself there is no emulation involved, it’s literally just playing the game as it would have, just from a different drive, E:/ instead of D:/ or whatever. Maybe I misunderstand what you’re asking though

Was referring to emulation on PC via roms vs running said roms on Xbox hardware.

Did you rip your own games?

Gotcha, sorry, was reading quick. Agreed though, can’t beat the real hardware, even just for the little things like watching the boot screen and having the proper controller.

I ripped about 3/4 of the discs I had then realized it was faster and easier to download them

@oldgreg To add to the "ripping your own games" is because I found that even roms that run well on PC, act funny on an ODE when run on the actual hardware.

I was battling an issue with game saves on my Gamecube.

I've got one of the old discontinued (but genuine) GC Loaders as my optical drive emulator to run many roms I've got saved on an SD card.

The issue is that, the rom itself would "corrupt" my save data regardless if I saved my file on an actual Gamecube memory card, or the "virtual" memory card created by loader itself.

Yet, I can create save files and load them up like normal on PC running the same rom.

It wasn't until I'd go through a few different roms that I'd find one that worked to create a good save file on my Gamecube.

Interesting. I’ve only messed with Xbox stuff really since that was my one childhood console, but in my experience, if a game works it works, regardless of source. The only problems I ever had were from bad rips that resulted in corrupted game files, preventing the game from loading at all

You did peak my interest though about ripping my own games. I can't imagine I'll realistically play many Xbox games but it'd still be worth ripping my own for a few and saving it on the HDD.

The Saturn had a bad drive and that lead me down the rabbit hole of ODE's.

I'm just glad my Playstation's drive still works well as there's a lot of solder work required to mod one of those :bananadead:

One old memory is going to my friend Jonathan's house and we'd play Vigilante 8, Tekken, or other popular games and we'd have to place his Playstation upside down just to play.
