2004 Tacoma prerunner

2000 prerunner 2.7. Can charcoal canister be repaired? I mean, replace charcoal. Mine emits gas odors in and out of vehicle. Seems worse after a fillup. I have adopted a new policy. No fillup past 3/4 mark. Wonder if canister will ever rejuvenate itself. Thoughts, please.
