I have been a huge fan of the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT. I had the 285/75-17 E for a couple months, but opted for the Light Truck version due to the massive weight difference.

The Boss At has been one of my favorite tires to date. I has done so well all the way around for me. My truck is a daily setup as just a functional truck maybe considered overlandish. Bilstein 6112 roughly 2" lift etc. Camburg UCA. My truck sees road trips, mild trails going to rifle matches and coyote hunting, snow, occasional mud. Typically see mud when going coyote hunting. I don't hardcore off-road my truck if I did I would say the Boss AT E would probably be my tire of choice. I is just so much more beefy compared to the Light Truck version and even the Stronghold.

I am all about a slightly aggressive Hybrid tire. I strongly considered going to the 255/85-17 Boss AT but I didn't want to mess with the fitment issues. I have the CMC plates here in the shop just never took the time to install them. Other than that minor trimming on my truck to fit the 285s...

Went with the 275/70r17 in the Stronghold AT partly because I wanted to see how they compared to my beloved Boss AT. I have the STT Max on my 2500 farm truck and while its good tire I hate how bad it throws rocks so that sorta canned them for the Taco.

Also I wanted slightly narrower tire and since no 255/80 etc option in the Cooper I came to the conclusion that the .4" height difference was negligible for me.

I had seen the other gents thread on the Stronghold and depend how you take the pics these tires don't look as aggressive other angles they look GTG. Just had them installed yesterday so no testing or long term yet.

I will say I think they will make a good option at first impressions. I was pleased to see that they are fairly aggressive and a good looking tread pattern. I will post the side by side pics against the MT. My Boss At had 7/32 thread left so just under half.

A couple things just to nit pick. I would like to seen the Cooper offer the same width in a 33'' or a 255/80r17. And also a little more pronounce rim protection. Like I said earlier the Boss AT E are massively built. I done a thread with pics on those a few years back if anyone wants to search that up to see the Boss At E vs STD light truck version.

Hope this helps someone else who was like me and trying to figure out what tire they wanted to run.

@jgreene70 How are you liking the Stronghold ATs? Does the 2 ply side wall make it ride decent for an E rated tire? Wet traction?

I like these tires pretty good. That being said I am a big Mickey fan..

I really like the size option of these. I do think they make a little more noise than the boss AT. My Boss At were the standard. I had the E at before that. These copper ride more similar to the standard than the E. Biggest downside to the Boss At in E is the weight is ridiculous.

I am not a hard core off road guy. My truck is my daily. With typical off road. I have to commute in winter time to work etc. I am in southern KY where we get 3-4 snows a year. Not much. But traction has been good. No issues going up my driveway which is pretty steep. I have spun out in older 4x4 that don’t have good systems. Like the old 1990 fords etc.

I do think they have a touch more pronounced whine than the Mickey did. Short of it I would consider these again. As for the choice. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Mickey E are really beefy if you want to be able to punish them more.

the Mickey standard and the Cooper are really similar. As mentioned before I was really attracted to this size
