    Hi Everyone,

Just had some heartbreaking news. My truck was stolen and passed across the border to Tijuana 7/7 around 2AM.

I'm initiating a claim with my insurance, and this process may be complex. Unsure of how to proceed. Likely will need to find comparables and would greatly appreciate any input.

    Truck and associated items:
    • 2019 Toyota Tacoma, TRD Offroad w/ premium technology package, 4x4, Cavalry Blue, DCSB, 30K miles, TRD aluminum skid plate
    • Fox 2.5 front shocks
    • Fox 2.0s rear shocks
    • Deaver U402 springs stage 1
    • Hammer hanger
    • Green Lane Offroad aluminum sliders w/ kickout and cover plate
    • Leer 100XR shell
    • Michelin Defender LTX 265 75 R16 w/ ~1K miles
    • Costco gel battery, replaced in the last 6 months
    • 1.4kWh LiFePO4 pack w/ Renogy charger
    • Ceramic coat was applied a few months ago
    • There are many other items in the truck for my work that I'll need to quantify.

Thank you all for any help you can offer.

Sorry for your loss. I would gather all the receipts for any items on or in the truck.

Sorry to hear about your truck. What insurance company do you have. Some companies are good and some not so much. TW members may be able to offer advice if you share the same company. I have American Family through Costco. I have not had to make a claim since I whiched from Safeco.

Many members on TW I think have Geico and can hopefully chime in. I hope your insurance company makes you whole.

Just a guess, but I don't think they'll give you anything for the AGM battery, newer tires and ceramic coat. Did you have aftermarket parts coverage on your policy for the suspension and shell?

    This!
most/some policies cover X amount in addons, you will have to call your insurance and lookup what amount was written in to your policy. This isn't brand to brand,, your policy. My guess is; unless you added more coverage, you may come up short, but I hope I am wrong.
EX. back in the early 2000s I wrecked my motorcycle and the policy I had (with no additional coverage added by me) was $1,100 that helped, but did not fully cover helmet, leathers, etc.

Any details or footage on how? I am only guessing they probably targeted your truck and simply towed it off.

I've had Geico in the past, and they were purposefully unhelpful for my claims. They are pretty notorious for undercompensating and you need to be prepared to fight them with documents on a fair value assessment.

That said, You will probably only get the value of your truck. They won't pay out on mods unless you have it covered under a separate rider or your homeowners' ins.

He is correct. I had an ‘87 Monte Carlo SS clone stolen and got zilch extra for the aftermarket parts.

    Curious, what area specifically?
    Im in eastcounty, Lakeside...

I recently had my 00 expedition totaled with some aftermarket goodies.
Def find your receipts & something I experienced & there was no work around....
I tried hard & delayed the settlement...
Mercury insurance says aftermarket parts are not re-imbursed dollar for dollar & furthermore theres depreciation that needs to be accounted for....:frusty:
    I had a $1700 receipt for rhino-lining the roof from 2023 & they gave me $120...
Sounds very crooked but I did everything I could..

I'll have to look into the details of the policy.

    geico uses CCC for evals.

CCC will give you, at most, like 10% on the dollar for aftermarket upgrades.

if you do not have an aftermarket parts endorsement that's all you are going to get.

you will not need to pull comps, CCC will do that for you.

source: i do this for a living

Why this approach versus a depreciation on a piece of durable equipment and replacement cost? Do they cover items inside the car?

start looking for your own Comps with similar mileage, & trim.
they will toss a lowball your direction.
look on car gurus, CL, offer-up.
mercury wouldnt accept forsaLe ads without a posted phone #

For me, offer-up had the highest priced vehicles & al ads were worthless, as they have the contact me feature where you message them, no # in the ads.

Depreciation on added accessories is rapid. After 3 years the accessories are basically valued at $0 by most insurance companies, for example.

Insurance doesn't cover loose items in the vehicle. If you had a $500 designer luggage in there, for example, it would not be covered.
