    Long time no see lol,
So i finally got a "new" 60k mile auto trans , installation was a breeze, new seals installed but other than prefilling the tc to get it wet, i waited to add fluid as I wanted to do a filter and can gasket. I got 12 qts free from a buddy but its Mobil1 dex/merc DM. Is that an absolute NO as its not LV or will it fet me back to work this week until I can drain it. Safe enough for a while, forever, or dont risk it, wait and order the toyota stuff or valvoline max life atf lv like a ton of yall run anyway lol. Thanks in advance!

I will say ive run it in my 4l79 based trans for years no issue, but thats obviously GM so im still trying to learn here how picky these 340s are about low viscosity and the whatnot, in a pinch ive run this stuff in HINO for a week waiting in the correct Spirax fluid but again- Allison so they dont care much either

That's not Mobil 1, it's just regular Mobil ATF. Dexron IIIH appears to be backward-compatible with Dex-III and II.

    Not compatible with your application.

    JMHO always pre-fill the TC.

Check the trans dipstick, toyota stamps the dipstick with fluid type. If the fluid you have doesn't match those specs/requirements, go spend the coin for the stuff that will. FWIW, I wouldn't run it unless it's compatible. You're never going to be able to do a full drain on a trans so...

I've been very surprised when buying some things like Type 4 ATF at my local dealer. I think it was like $6-7 a quart.

I believe the zone has maxlife on sale still now, my transmission has only been drinking that for years now no issue.

I don't want to give bad info or use the wrong stuff myself, so how is it the wrong fluid for a Dexron III application?
