I was able to do mine with all of the resources and info here on TW. sure it took several years of research but I now have a supercharged, long travel, twin stick 4x4 converted tacoma for a fraction of the price of buying an already 4x4 vehicle.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
I don’t get the “LOL” since I’ve not met anyone that has complained about their converted truck. Did you had any issues doing the conversion yourself?

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I LOL'ed because it was a joke. I have not converted a Tacoma to 4x4 because I do not think it would be prudent to do so though I am confident that if I chose to do so I could do it but as stated. Would not think it would be worth my time. I have done plenty of fab work in my day. In the context that the OP posed this question it in my opinion would not be a wise option. They posed it as having a shop do it for them. I have an opinion as it appears you do as well. Being that you have taken the time and energy to do this conversion it seems you are very passionate in that your opinion is the only one valid. Knowing vehicles as I do. It is just not prudent. If you want to get to the core of it, I base my decision simply on putting that much effort into a platform with a rotting frame problem. No Tacoma is worth the effort knowing that the frame is going to rot out of it long before it pays back my efforts. The OP can choose to do whatever they like. No one with any financial sense is going to advocate for this as it being a wise choice. Have people done it, sure. For them it might have been the right decision. Based on the info here that does not seem to be the case. In my opinion.

The only smart way to go about doing a conversion is to have a donor truck and with the market as it is today that is not as easy to come by. Just because no one you have met has complained that does not make it a wise venture in the first place. Just means you have met a collective that had the ability and the means and chose to do it. When most could sell and buy and 4x4 for the same money or even cheaper. Unless you are going to build into an all out rock crawler this never makes sense for any vehicle. Not just the Tacoma. If you were to sell 95% of your market would never touch it because of the modification. And you can say "oh I will never sell". That is normally not the case at some point.

If your truck is stock with a couple mods and you have no skills to work on it then I agree to sell it and get a 4x4.

If you choose plan B, everything you need is in this thread. @Ricardo13x and myself and several others have done the conversion and of all the things I've done to my truck that is the best decision ever.

Plan C to have a shop do it, no way. Way too much in labor.

Gotcha, great input. You and I agree. Only a good idea if you do it yourself or care about growing through the process. And yeah I only advocate for it if you’re willing to DIY the thing. Pitched in since he mentioned he’ll be down with some guidance. Cheers!

^^^What ricardo said is half true. Like him, I did the conversion myself...spent like $3k in 2020 only because of extra expenses like wider front axles (i have long travel 3.5 in. over kit) and had to regear the front diff to match the gears in my rear diff.
would have been cheaper if not for that by like $1000-1200 maybe :notsure: (I got everything super cheap)
I slowly got the parts for all corners of the US and locally

when I had asked someone "reputable" to do it aka rocksolidtoys (f-them; search for stories) he had told me $9-12k depending on what i wanted.

Im not sure who out there will do this aka a shop now a days for something like this might have to trade the truck.
