Long story short, I'm chasing a front end popping noise. I've checked all the usual suspects, and none of them seem to be the problem. My last stop is the lower control arm bushings, and while inspecting them (they don't look warn out by the way) I noticed what I think is a lot of space between the control arms and the frame mounts. Could the whole LCA be sliding forward/backwards making the noise? Attached are what mine look like. Anyone have pictures of their OEM LCAs installed in place I can compare to?

This video is Dirt King not OEM. Still might help you track down your popping noise.

Thanks. Looking at 2:12 in that video, it sure looks like there is a lot more free space in mine than there should be. My frame mounts don't look bent or anything, so not sure what is causing that. Any ideas?

Your LCA looks fine. Due to the camber/caster adjustment the bushing will move slightly and look like your photo

It's also worth looking into the front body mounts. They've been known to "pop" when installed out of alignment and they're failing.

When does the noise happen? When braking or turning sharply?

Not installed, but the bushing looks the same. I think your popping noise is coming from somewhere else.

Worn bushings is usually a clunk noise. A popping noise can be caused by less than tight LCA cam bolts shifting in the frame.. like during sharp braking when all the weight of the truck goes through the control arms

I'm just throwing this out there because it happened to my FJ.

Try taking off your LCA skid plates and see if it continues. Start taking away the things that could cause it. You never know...and yes....trying to diagnose an issue on line is very very difficult. haha

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
The 2 bolts at either end of transmission cross member maybe? I remember those on my 2nd Gen. Only needed like half a turn per bolt.
Skid plate bolts are also a possibility.
