My 2020 Tacoma has had its wiring chewed 2 years in a row. Tried mothballs, peppermint spray, etc., to no avail.

Thinking of selling it, but don't know what to buy that doesn't have soy in the wiring. Suggestions?

Soy-based wiring is an often perpetuated myth. Mice chew on wiring to wear down their teeth. They aren't eating it for nutrition.

Remove the plastic cosmetic cover over the intake manifold to reduce shelter for mice.

Spray rodent repellent once a month over all the wiring harness bundles in the engine bay. I use Tomcat spray available at Lowes and Home Depot. Saturate all wiring under the intake manifold, around the fuse box, and around the electronic brake booster. Be sure to do this on a cold engine. You'll use about one spray can every two months, so buy a few.

Rodents have been eating wiring for decades before a small amount of epoxidized soy oil started to be included in the insulation. IMO this is an urban legend that's just too easy despite the facts not bearing it out.

(disclaimer: I spent decades working in soy protein technology as a polymer scientist, and I know the authors of this study.)

Rodents chewed my heater hoses, no soy there. After that I’ve been using an electronic device under the hood that supposedly repels rodents. Been using it for a few months. So far no problems and no evidence of rodents in the engine compartment.

They also chewed the wires in the back over the gas tank. Had to have a new gas tank installed!

Sounds like you have one hell of a rodent infestation. What kind of area do you live in, rural, city residential or? Is it possible to park your truck in a garage. Parking in a garage really reduces the possibility of rodent damage as long as the garage is well sealed. Plus you can set traps for the few number of rodents that may be in the garage.
If you can only park outside it sounds like there is an overwhelming infestation of rodents that you are just shit out of luck. Trapping rodent’s outdoors probably won’t make a dent in the population. You can try some of the commercial electronic repellent devices. So far they’ve worked for me but it’s only been a couple months, too short a time to adequately measure their effectiveness.

bobcat urine. Needs the smell of a predator...

or, a friend in Arizona had a problem with rodents chewing wires in both their vehicles. They got a strip of lights to park over. The LED strip comes on at night and keeps all the critters away.

Wow, had to have the whole take replaced and not just the pump? Glad I have a 2nd gen, squirrels chewed my wires and I just fixed them.

I use a garlic oil thing I found on Amazon after squirrels ate on my Land Rover.

I installed one of those electronic mice repellant devices (Amazon) under the hood of the SUV owned by the lady that cuts my hair.
They chewed the hose going to the washer nozzles, (Honda). I think they also used her car as a bathroom.
It worked but she also cleaned up a wood pile that was in her driveway. Coincidence?

Stop eating Cheetos inside of the truck.
Stop eating Cheetos while doing oil changes. The dust gets everywhere.
